In this paper we describe the new role of the “eProfessional”, as a person who works and learns though Internet, while in the workplace. The most important tool for the eProfessional to use is the PLWE (Personal Learning and Work Environment), that is an amplification of the PLE (Personal Learning Environment) concept, involving Personal Learning Management and Personal Work Management. The goal of education should change from teaching to continuous learning. We have to do that, since there are new external requirements, raised from the new information age in a fast changing World. Keywords: eProfessional, PLE, PLWE, PLN, workplace learning, work, learning

In a previous work we presented a new architecture for the optimization of Traffic Light Cycles in a Traffic Network. Three basic design items support the model: The use of Genetic Algorithms as an optimization technique, the use of Cellular Automata Simulators within the Evaluation Function, and the use of a Beowulf Cluster as a parallel execution environment for this architecture. In order to complete our work we present here a scalability study. We demonstrate clearly that this architecture is a very scalable one by showing the results of the optimization of four very different scale traffic networks.

We are in a world of continuous changes. New structures such as social networks or new technologies modify our perception of learning. This perception, combined with the unemployment rate and the rising life expectancy, draws a new scenario where the need of a new learning frame is not a choice. For this reason, we have developed and applied a learning methodology based on a bottom-up strategy and embedded it into a social model learning called the Suricata Model. Our methodology allows our students to improve their skills and personal empowerment. Thus, this empowerment methodology has been applied over the past three years to achieve measurable and sustainable behaviour change at the individual, organizational and community level during the learning process. In this paper we describe the development and the experience of applying this methodology through a group of elderly people in order to provide them a good chance to improve their social and personal skills.

During a couple of years we have dealt with the traffic lights optimization problem. We have designed a scalable and flexible architecture for this purpose. By this work we present a comparison between two different approaches to crossover. We have used a real world case. Through some tests we show that using a gray code bit level crossover instead of

Last year we presented at the CEC2004 conference a novel architecture for traffic light cycles optimization. The heart of this architecture is a Traffic Simulator used as the evaluation tool (fitness function) within the Genetic Algorithm. Initially we allowed the simulator to have a random behavior. Although the results from this sort of simulation were consistent, it was necessary to

In recent years, extensive work has been done to design algorithms that strive to mimic the robust human vision system which is able to perceive the true colors and discount the illuminant from a scene viewed under light having different spectral compositions (the feature is called “color constancy”). We propose a straightforward approach to the color constancy problem by employing

ABSTRACT In the present article our purpose is to share the design and some initial validation test results we have developed with a new extended cellular automata simulation model. Such new model is equipped to simulate both overtaking and two basic driving behaviour rough patterns: Some virtual drivers facilitate others drivers' manoeuvres and some do not do so.

Urban traffic congestion is a pandemic illness affecting many cities around the world. We have developed and tested a new model for traffic signal optimization based on the combination of three key techniques: 1) genetic algorithms (GAs) for the optimization task; 2) cellular-automata-based microsimulators for evaluating every possible solution for traffic-light programming times; and 3) a Beowulf Cluster, which is
