We wish to give the floor to those men and women who were left aside by history. Personal memory processes do not grow along the lines, and sometimes even contradict, the requirements of scientific history methodology. We take great care and attention to these tensions, though inevitable often fruitful, emerging between the process of individual memory and the requirements of scientific history critical methodology.
VIGILANCE
Nazi Germany’s determination to erase, in the name of a criminal ideology, an entire people labeled for death en masse regardless of all principles of individual freedom and justice, cut an imprinted and lasting swath through the fields of humanities, changing for ever the way western civilisation percieves itself and prompting a new awareness of its own destructive tendencies. The Contemporary Memory Foundation wishes to contribute to this vigilance effort by giving the floor to those who know, more than anyone else, the kind of heavy price that had to be paid to this madness and make sure their testimony will be passed on through the generations. A clear vision of the past is a key element to present day vigilance of Democracies against their enemies within in order to build a more human future for all, regardless of color or race.edit
