Uncontrolled oxidative stress causes several degenerative diseases. Antioxidants are needed to prevent or reduce oxidative stress. One of the plants with a high content of antioxidant compounds is brown algae (Sargassum sp). The study aimed to examine Sargassum sp.'s antioxidant activity, which is expressed in the IC50 value using the DPPH method as measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. It is a narrative review, with literature searches from the Science Direct, Pubmed, and Google Scholar databases. The results showed that the methanol extract of Sargassum sp. has strong antioxidant activity consisting of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and carotenoids. This review concludes that Sargassum sp extract has antioxidant activity.

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the pathogenic bacteria that can infect humans. The aim of this work was to establish the antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and to determine the secondary metabolite compounds in Sargassum polycystum ethyl acetate fraction. The liquid-liquid partition method is used to obtain the ethyl acetate fraction. The diffusion method (Well Diffusion Method) is the research technique used to study antibacterial activity. According to the results of the phytochemical screening, Sargassum polycystum positive contained steroids in the ethyl acetate fraction. The antibacterial activity study's findings revealed readings of the inhibitory negative control zone diameter of 0.00 mm and the positive control diameter of 34.46 mm. Five different concentrations were used in the control test: 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1, 2, and 2% (b/v). The average measurement findings are less than 5 mm. It is believed that secondary steroid metabolites are in charge of Staphylococcus aureus's antibacterial action. The Sargassum polycystum's ethyl acetate fraction has a weak antibacterial activity, that is less than 5 mm.

After drying, there is no residue and it may be removed without rinsing. The production of masks from natural materials is preferable to that from synthetic materials, which might have negative side effects and alter natural contour of the skin. S. polycystum is one of the natural products that can be used as a mask with natural ingredients. Antioxidants included in S. polycystum act as a deterrent to free radicals. S. polycystum contains phenolic compounds, carotenoids, laminarins, alginates, fukoidans, florotanins, and ectoin among other antioxidants. The objective of the study was to find the optimal amount of S. polycystum extract to incorporate into peel-off masks with high antioxidant activity. The sample is prepared using the Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction technique with S. polycystum powder and ethanol as the solvent. A peel-off mask was made utilizing S. polycystum extract in concentrations of 0%, 3%, and 4%. Testing the mask's quality includes an organoleptic test, a pH test, a homogeneity test, a stability test, a drying test, and an antioxidant activity test using DPPH with an IC50 concentration. S. polycystum extract can be made into a peel-off mask, according to the research. Kandungan kimia yang terdapat dalam tumbuhan mengambil peran dalam memberi aktivitas farmakologi ... more Kandungan kimia yang terdapat dalam tumbuhan mengambil peran dalam memberi aktivitas farmakologi yang berbeda sehingga penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengembangkan pemanfaatan rumput laut Sargassum polycystumdengan melakukan skrining fitokimia. Skrining fitokimia bertujuan memberikan gambaran tentang golongan senyawa yang terkandung dalam tanaman. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan Sargassum polycystumyang diambil dari daerah Sumenep, Madura. Ekstrak dibuat dengan mengekstraksi simplisia S.polycystumdengan pelarut etanol 96% menggunakan metode maserasi dan perbandingan pelarut dan serbuk yaitu 1:4. Hasil uji skrining menunjukkan bahwa S.polycystumpositif mengandung senyawa golongan alkaloid, glikosida, steroid/triterpenoid, saponin, flavanoid, polifenol, dan tanin. Hasil profiling dengan FTIR juga menunjukkan adanya gugus fungsi senyawa aromatik, karbonil, alifatik dan alcohol.

Justicia gendarussa telah banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat Papua dan diketahui tanaman ini mampu menghambat penetrasi sperma dan enzim hyaluronidase. Maka dari itu, J.gendarussa memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan menjadi sediaan fitofarmaka. Produksi sediaan fitofarmaka harus memenuhi syarat cara pembuatan obat tradisional yang baik (CPOTB) untuk menjamin kulaitas dari produk yang dihasilkan. Standar CPOTB meliputi aspek bahan baku, peralatan, sanitasi serta higienis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan granul kapsul J.gendarussa dengan sifat fisikokimia yang baik serta memastikan tidak adanya perubahan kualitas selama proses dengan adanya implementasi CPOTB.

From this research, fish oil decreased writhings number in mice dose 5, 10, 20 and 30 mg/kg compared to negative control (P<0.001). An in silico approach was applied to predict the active compounds of the extract.
