This paper reviews the key function of the catholic press at the end of XIX century, with the cre... more This paper reviews the key function of the catholic press at the end of XIX century, with the creation of a kind of catechism which every catholic person identified the enemy of his or her way of life. The ideas that the church attacked included Liberalism, Freemasonry, and Protestantism as a threatening triad that had to be combatted. In order to reach this goal, the ecclesiastical hierarchy created images about each of these ideas that portrayed them as sects.
