Win of the week: voted!!!
Looking forward to:Β getting all the reservations made for my trip
Stuff I did:
- 8.75 hours consulting
- 1.75 hours writing
- DH brought me my favorite sandwich and a big snickerdoodle for lunch on my birthday – now in the final year of my thirties!
- trip planning, trip planning, trip planning! Our first out of state travel since February 2020 — bought our plane tickets and have planned each day down to the hour to be realistic about how much we can reasonably see
- set up my new printer table (just a random Target side table) — alas, my printer doesn’t fit on the bottom shelf so it has to be on the cat-exposed top one
- planted the witch hazel and Oregon grape and one of the bee balms — somehow I had put the THREE layers of landscape fabric and plastic out of my mind ππ I’ve been building up the soil for a decade so at this point it’s buried at least 6″ deep — woo digging is functional fitness! π« I’m a wreck lol
- booked our COVID boosters for next week π next week I have 4 appointments, why did I save up all medical chores for fall
- checked my friend’s mail again — used the trip as an excuse to get lunch at a spot my husband likes
- dropped off a sample at the vet — cat does not have parasites, yay
- updated the music on my phone so I have all the stuff I’ve bought since quitting streaming and the most recent albums from my favorite bands (I’ve been riding with the same music on my phone since like 2018, it was due for an update)
- made overnight sourdough pancakes
- skipped my usual walk for feeling bleh — I blame all the digging but also probably didn’t help things by staying up late a couple nights working on my big post of the week
Dinners:
- baked potato + coconut chickpea curry π + blackberry soda
- paneer bhurji + toast
- sourdough buttermilk biscuits (better than the last recipe) + glazed chiogga beets + honey roasted carrots + mushroom gravy
- leftover sandwich
- pizza delivery – classic cheese for me
- beans on toast + poached egg + leftover root veg (one of my beets lit itself aflame in the microwave??? just a small spark and a tiny projectile of charcoal but still concerning π)
- boxed tomato soup + toasted cheese
Reading:
I realized I’ve been changing my library borrowing habits because I felt bad about wasting a checkout when libraries have gotten screwed on borrowing terms… so I’ve been checking out way fewer books — and also reading fewer books. In 2020 I borrowed 285 books through Libby, down to 178 last year, and so far this year only 147.
I don’t know if borrowing – reading rate is a causal relationship (a lot of other things have changed over that time span π) but I think it’s worth going back to my old method of borrowing a bunch of stuff at once so it’s all ready to go on my Kindle, even if I only wind up reading a few of them. This is what the library is for, I shouldn’t make myself feel guilty for using it as best works for me, which is giving myself copious options π€·ββοΈ
- Started reading Soon, I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman

- Love You Got by Kelly Lee Owens (via Giles)
- Hijos del Sol by Hermanos GutiΓ©rrez (via Anthony)
Website changes:
- The lists were getting really long on the Cool Artists page so I organized them loosely by vibes
- Published my wishlist page because that’s the main thing I use Pinterest for and I’d like to get away from Pinterest (then saw this “things I do not need” page which is a more accurate name ππ€)
