Beast Wars Diorama Story
Some time after Starscream fled from prehistorical Earth, Wolfang was part of a group of Predacons, led by Megatron and including Waspinator, Blackarachnia, and a time-displaced Archadis, who battled a contingent of Maximals comprising Optimus Primal, Rhinox, Cheetor, Colada, and Dinobot in a forest. All of the Transformers transformed into robot mode. Optimus Primal Chapter Wolfang found himself locked into battle with Rhinox. Rhinox attacked with his Tail Blade only to be fought off by Wolfang's Crossbow Missile. Not to be outdone, Rhinox then hit him with the Gatling Hammer. Rhinox Chapter With his Hyper Shield blocking another one of Rhinox's Tail Blade attacks, Wolfang tried to hit him with a Crossbow Missile. Wolfang Chapter
Some time into the battle, a warp opened, bringing with it Jazz, Ironhide, Starscream, Optimus Prime, and Ratchet, who were Decepticons and Autobots from another universe. Tigatron and Gimlet also joined the battle, and, after being defeated by the Maximals, Starscream joined the Predacons. Tigatron Chapter Blackout later appeared and joined the Predacons, as well. As the battled raged, the Megatron from the other universe came in through the warp. Gimlet Chapter
The Decepticon Megatron brought along Brawl, and the two Megatrons combined their troops into a fearsome force against the Autobots and Maximals. In the ensuing skirmish, Wolfang stood in the forest, preparing for battle. The Maximals' savior came in the form of Motorarm. The two factions then took formation against each other with the intention of combining their energies to attack the opposing side. The Maximals and the Autobots attacked first. Motorarm Chapter
Beast Wars: Uprising
Wolfang was a Predacon Secret Police copper who was sent as a spy in the Maximal Command Security Force, transforming from his real robot mode into a Maximal disguise. Initially, he'd been an eager-beaver patriot. As time went on and the depressing, soul-grinding nature of Cybertron wore down on him, he grew depressed and addicted to cy-gar-ettes. He also stopped caring about his spy mission: he enjoyed solving murder cases (though never getting too invested) and was happy to be seen as a good soldier by both sides. Wolfang was, he prided himself, an honest MaxCop too, never being corrupt to supplement his salary. Trigger Warnings He worked with Stiletto, who for her part considered him a colleague, and called him "Howlinger" to annoy him. Cultural Appropriation
As a MaxCop, he partnered with Aura. He attempted to counsel Stiletto after she was forced to kill her partner Betabear while he was on a nucleon-kick, but she failed to recover mentally and Wolfang lost a leg in the field due to Stiletto's hesitation to act. The leg turned from blue to red after it was separated, but she didn't properly register this. Burning Bridges
During the Grand Uprising, he became far too attached to one murder case after secretly accessing the victim's memories and seeing happy emotions. The victim, Twirl, turned out to be a Targetmaster in disguise, hiding in plain sight as a Micromaster. With the Resistance and Tarantulas both interested in the forbidden technology contained in her corpse, Wolfang realized that the true killer was none other than Overrun, another Targetmaster in hiding. He convinced Overrun that the tech in his body was too dangerous to be allowed to fall to either faction and the two of them allowed themselves to be blown up. Trigger Warnings
Stiletto would learn of his death some time later, though she only knew some details, such as it being a "Builder murder case", and on finding an abandoned pack of cy-gar-ettes smoked some in his memory. Cultural Appropriation A year later, she'd learnt he'd been a Predacon, and callously dismissed his death. Derailment Ultimately, Wolfang's presence in history, such as it was, wound up forgotten completely. The Inexorable March
2005 IDW continuity
Wolfang was one of Onyx Prime's Maximals who fell under the command of Unicron. When Optimus Prime led a force against Unicron to prevent him from eating Caminus, Wolfang was sent out to attack. In the ensuing battle, Wolfang was shot by Dirge. Last Stand
Toys
Beast Wars Telemocha Series
- Wolfang (Deluxe, 2007)
- ID number: TM-10
- Release date: May 24, 2007
- Accessories: Launcher, two "Crossbow Missiles", "Hyper Shield"
- Released in the third wave of Takara's Beast Wars Telemocha Series (and the only item in said wave), Wolfang is a redeco of the Deluxe Maximal Wolfang, transforming into an organic wolf. In robot mode, his mutant head mask flips down to cover his normal head. His wolf mode's back becomes a shield, while the tail becomes a spring-loaded missile launcher in robot mode; two anchor-shaped missiles are stored in Wolfang's midsection.
- He also comes with a DVD of the Beast Wars episode "Double Jeopardy" (the Japanese dub, of course), which he naturally does not appear in.
Notes
- Much like Shadow Panther before him, Wolfang is a new character using a previous Maximal mold who was created to make sure that the two factions had equal numbers in the toy line. This principle was eventually ignored with the last Deluxe-sized release in the toy line being a Maximal without an accompanying Predacon.
- His CGI artwork (shown above) is the CGI artwork for the original Japanese "Howlinger" toy packaging from 1997, only with Wolfang's new colors slapped on.
- Beast Wars: Uprising gave this Wolfang a second robot mode based on the coloration of the Maximal Wolfang, utilizing the 2008 Universe series Sunstreaker/Sideswipe mold, which had also been used as Timelines Punch-Counterpunch.
- David Bishop was very happy to write a noir story featuring Wolfang as the central character.[2]
