Another queer_fest story, this does a really great job of keeping Dudley's characterisation consistent with the series while also giving him a lot more depth, spinning from the premise that he's intersex and doesn't know for a long time. Lovely.

Fannish News

kink_bingo is gearing up for another round, whee! There are essays and updated rules and so on at the comm, which are all worth reading. Some of the rule changes are pretty great, particularly the addition of various achievements for things like getting a line bingo with asexual characters etc, and also the fact it's extended for an extra month, which gives me something to do when I am post-degree and job-hunting in September, awesome.

So I haven't had time to delve into rs_small_gifts yet on account of how I'm still working on my own submission (sorry again, mods!). But the story raven wrote for me went up today, and oh wow.

Evergreen by raven (Harry Potter, Remus/Sirius, PG)

I'm still all verklempt over it so I can't write the most useful of recs, but this is a beautiful story about community and different traditions within the Order in the First War, and about light in the darkness, and about when you love someone, they're the brightest light of all. I love it really a lot. If you ever loved this ship, this story will remind you why.

+ Whee, Yuletide! My assignment is awesome. \o/ (Yuletide author, if you're looking for my letter it is this way.

+ Also, IN A FIT OF I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT, I just signed up for festivids (like Yuletide but for rare vidding fandoms). It was shiny, I couldn't resist! *facepalm* Anyway, if you want to join me, sign-ups close on Tuesday.

+ I have not seen Doctor Who yet, though I am sure I will soon, as my desire to see Tennant wins out over my apathy at anything RTD writes these days.

Albus wakes up on his seventeenth birthday determined to make the most of it.

This story is about far more than the summary would imply - it's a brilliant piece of slowly unfurling narration, and the premise has been haunting me for days. There's not a lot more I can say without spoiling it.

A gorgeous First-War snapshot and a lovely pairing.

Project Run,way Galaxy [Doctor Who] by othellia, a hilarious piece of crack told in over 130 macros.

You Don't Bring Me Flowers (Anymore) by blue_fjords [Torchwood, Tosh/Adam, R]

Adam (both the episode and the character) creeps me out like no one's business, but this is more tragic than disturbing, and a brilliant look at the alternate characterisation of Tosh in that episode.

There are all kinds of families. She knows that better than most. Sometimes it is love that ties them together, and sometimes it's comfort or needing each other. Sometimes it's music and stories shared around a fire.

I want to say all sorts of intelligent things about this story, but I haven't quite found the words yet. It's gorgeous, and a brilliant example of something that's completely canon-compliant but doesn't fit the standard backstory we assign these characters.

You know, I'm pretty sure I had no intention whatsoever of getting into another fandom. I mean, I watched Leverage and loved it and everything, but the fic just had to go and be amazing, didn't it? Sigh. My life, so hard. *g*

(On that note - guys, seriously, watch Leverage. It's about hot thieves who steal things for Great Justice and it has teeeeam and multi-shipping and I am so in love with Parker and Eliot and Alec I can't even tell you.)

If you're a fan of any of the three ships featured here, you'll love this. If you're a fan/familiar with all three, it's like hitting the Jackpot of Awesome. pforte nails it - the fanon cliches, the ridiculousness, the way all three ships are exactly the same when it comes to badfic, and the whole thing is so wry and well-done and comedy gold. Merlin gets possessed by a self-insert! Sirius is made to kiss girls! Jack's tired of re-enacting bad gay porn! Ahahahaha, pforte wins everything, the end.

A post of parts today!

First, briefly on ( Supernatural )
So there needs to be Torchwood/Supernatural crossovers approximately yesterday. In fact, there are many, many Whoverse crossovers that should be out there! Which leads me beautifully onto part two:

dw_cross sign-ups are now open! Last year was a blast and so this year I'm going to be giving avendya a helping hand. I can tell you now we've got some fantastic prompts coming in already. The fics are due at the beginning of July, just after the end of Series 4, and whatever bits of Who fandom you're in and whatever crossovers you'd like to write, you should definitely come and play! I'm looking forward to Remix reveals tomorrow - I don't think I'm alone in being unable to get The Boy Who Killed Time out of my head, so I can't wait to find out who's responsible. I'm pretty sure on two or three anonymous identities myself, and if anyone else would like to take a stab at which one's mine you may do so here. I've got a few more things I'd like to read and leave feedback on before tomorrow afternoon, but here's a few more recs.

The new Eve and an Antichrist - not so much star-crossed as Dust-crossed lovers. Lyra wants her happy ending so badly, but she's still a long way away from endings of any kind.

Oooh, this is a wonderful meshing of canons - it blends in bits and pieces of other Gaiman and Pratchett stories, and the characters of both the main stories meet in all sorts of interesting way. Lyra and Adam are both perfect, and there's a lot of great cameos from others. A really nicely done, intelligent and interesting story.

Awww, I haven't read proper Marauder prank fic in ages, not like this, this is so funny and well-characterised and great fun all round.

Beautiful, heartbreaking and insightful, and the writing is just stunning. This captures so many moments, the kind of story to just wrap up in for a little while.
