Hi! This is a catchall post if you'd like to drop me a line - feel free also to send me a PM or email me at such.heights at gmail dot com.

Useful info:

Fanworks masterlist | my AO3 account | my vids at my website

Note: mediafire killed all my links a while back - if you're looking to download something and it's not on my website, please let me know.

Blanket permission (podfic, art, remix, etc):

My policy on permissions for use of my work is that you don't in fact need my permission to make art, record podfic, remix, critique, translate, save, share or otherwise reuse and interact with anything I've done. I'd love it if you'd share a link with me when you're done, however!

Accessibility:

Every fanwork I post will have a 'content notes' field. Elements that I will signpost should I make something involving them include graphic violence, sexual violence, major character death, and anything under the umbrella of mental illness and PTSD. I will also note when my vids contain particularly rapid cutting, bright flashes or sudden changes in volume. If you would like any further information about anything I've posted, feel free to get in touch.

I include image descriptions in the alt text of pictures that I post, and subtitle tracks for my vids, though in both cases that only goes back so far - if there's a particular vid you'd like a subtitle track for that doesn't currently have one, please ask and I'll be happy to put one together.

Hello, festividder! Optional details are optional, but if some more info would be helpful then here it is. Recycled from previous years but still relevant!

Some kinds of vids that I like include: vids that explore the world of the source, swishy dancey action vids, emotional character-driven vids, vids about awesome women whether focused on one individual or a group of them, vids about people who love each other, vids exploring big thematic ideas and imagery, vids about comedy hijinx.

Seeing one of these sources come to life in your vid is going to be awesome, I'm so excited. Musically, I haven't met a genre you can't make an awesome vid out of.

EXU Calamity is a Critical Role prequel mini-series, about the downfall of an ancient civilisation centuries before the events of the main show. It has entirely eaten my brain since it aired last summer. I was so excited to find this haunting cover of the song and had a great time making this. All fanworks used linked below the cut.

BBC/Love Productions Reality Shows With Names Starting 'The Great' [UMBRELLA], Brennan Lee Mulligan RPF, Critical Role (Web Series) RPF, Dimension 20 (Web Series), Exandria Unlimited: Calamity (Web Series), A League of Their Own (TV 2022), Pride (2014) [SAFETY], Spy (2015) [SAFETY], Star Trek: Lower Decks (Cartoon)

BBC/Love Productions Reality Shows With Names Starting 'The Great' [UMBRELLA]' is the incredibly clunky attempt to capture The Great British Bake Off, The Great Pottery Throw Down, and The Great British Sewing Bee!

I love these chill creative competition shows very much. Everyone’s just here to do their best! All the contestants are delightful! Most of the judges are also delightful (ugh, Paul Hollywood). Anything from any of these shows about the highs and lows, the camaraderie, or anything else that speaks to you would be lovely. If there was a way I could have framed the umbrella fandom to include the Great Canadian Baking Show as well I would have because that also delights me, so if you want to include it please do!

Brennan Lee Mulligan RPF

Brennan Lee Mulligan is a comedian and ttrpg actual play player/game master and I love him very much. I love his complete lack of chill, his incredible unhinged rants, his deep commitment to heartfelt storytelling and how much he loves gassing up his friends (and mom!), and he is SO funny.

I love his College Humor stuff like the CEO series, everything he does on Game Changer, and all the TTRPG series like Dimension 20, EXU Calamity, Battle for Beyond, TAZ etc.

Truly any vid would delight me. Some links to some favourite clips for inspiration:

Reciting the Declaration of Independence: https://youtu.be/0iv6-csRBBI
Escalating chaos monologues: https://youtu.be/Q7RmLYXvCmI
Brennan and Izzy being delightful: https://youtu.be/m13ORE0oeXk

The CEO series: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUwik-b70qjtUAUFDKzf3hREjb3JqNgVN

Dimension 20

I love every season, but particular faves include Unsleeping City, Escape from the Bloodkeep, The Seven, Starstruck Odyssey, and A Court of Fey and Flowers.

Critical Role RPF

Truly anything here would make me happy, whether you want to focus on the main cast, guests, the EXU casts, anything you like.

Exandria Unlimited: Calamity

Unsurprisingly given my previous fandoms here, I LOVED this. Such a phenomenal cast. I have watched the whole thing maybe four times now? It’s just such a rich story in only four sessions, everyone is at the top of their game, and it makes me laugh and sob every time. Absolutely anything you wanted to do, about the players, the characters, the world, would delight me.

A League of Their Own

QUEER BASEBALL LADIES. I loved everything about this. I’d enjoy a vid focused on any aspect, but one thing I loved was all the different friendships like Max and Clance, Greta and Joey and Lupe and Jess.

Pride

A film of my heart, it’s just perfect.

Spy

Another perfect film of my heart! I adore Melissa McCarthy in this, and truly everyone’s on point. Jason Statham’s finest role for sure, everything he does is hysterical.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

When I signed up I was confident I would have completely caught up, which I have not done, oops! However, I don’t mind spoilers at all (I’m halfway through season 2) and I love everything the show does.

Seeing one of these sources come to life in your vid is going to be awesome, I'm so excited. Musically, I haven't met a genre you can't make an awesome vid out of.

Requests:

In The Heights (2021): This was such a visually stunning adaptation of the play. I loved the colour and movement of it all so much and would be delighted with anything.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (Movies) These films are far more charming than I was expecting! The video game jokes alone really tickled me, and while I went in expecting to love The Rock and Karen Gillan's characters, Jack Black as a teenage girl was also surprisingly touching? I'd love an ensemble vid or a vid about Martha and/or Bethany.

Spy (2015 movie) This is pretty much my favourite film of all time. It makes me laugh so much, and also seeing Melissa McCarthy not just be a brilliant comic actor but also getting to be an action star as a fat woman makes me so so happy. I love Susan, I love Susan and Nancy, and it truly is Jason Statham's greatest film role, I'd love a Rick Ford vid too.

Critical Role (Web Series) RPF I love these nerds! Absolutely anything would be delightful here, though I do have a particular soft spot for Matt, Marisha and Taliesin's friendship (*cough* OT3 *cough*).

Dimension 20 (Web Series) RPF I also love these nerds! I've watched every season apart from A Crown of Candy and had a very good time with everything. I love the main cast and also all of the side quests, especially Escape from the Bloodkeep, Misfits & Magic and The Seven.

Totally optional crossover prompt: if you wanted to do something with Critical Role, Dimension and/or The Adventure Zone I would be into that!

The Good Place (TV) This show has my whole heart. I'd love a vid about anything - ensemble, character study, ship vid (I love Eleanor/Chidi and Jason/Janet), something about the worldbuilding of the show, anything you like.

The Great British Sewing Bee (BBC) This is a very adorable show in the vein of the Great British Bake Off etc. I particularly enjoyed s4 and s5 but they're all great.

Totally optional crossover prompt: if you wanted to do a crossover with this and other gentle making things shows like GBBO, the Great Pottery Throw Down etc I would love that! They've all been a big part of my pandemic viewing.

Hades (Video Game 2018) I enjoyed this game very much. If Animal Crossing was the adorable escapist game of early pandemic, Hades for me was the later pandemic game of grimly dragging yourself out of a pool of blood and trying again! I love Zagreus, I love Zagreus/Meg/Thanatos, and the storylines with Persephone and Achilles/Patroclus are so wonderful.

Hello! I am VJing a multifandom vids show for Fanworks Con, and I would love vid recs! Especially for things made in the last few years, I think my collection is pretty weighted towards vids made circa 2010 - 2015. Self recs extremely welcome.

For the purposes of this, I'm defining multifandom as any vid that uses at least two different fandoms that don't have connecting canon, and where the vid footage represents its fandom and isn't being repurposed for a constructed reality vid or similar. In other words, a Doctor Who/Torchwood vid wouldn't count, and a book trailer for Ancillary Justice that takes footage from half a dozen sources wouldn't count.

I think news has spread pretty widely by now, but as I haven't posted this publicly here yet - [personal profile] purplefringe died suddenly in her sleep a week ago. My grief is beyond words.

A lot of Phoebe's non-fannish friends, and some of her family, knew about and really admired her vids, and generally were familiar with her fangirl activities. I'd like to find ways to tell them about all the things that Phoebe did in fandom, the friends that she made and the lives that she touched.

Whether you were close or only knew her vids or general fandom presence, if you have a memory of her you wanted to share I'd really appreciate it. Nothing is too brief (or too long). A favourite vid, a time running into her at a convention, a twitter conversation you had, anything at all will be a comfort at an awful time. If you need a refresher, you can find her vids on youtube and on ao3.

I've created a google form, alternatively you can comment below or email me at such.heights at gmail - if you could include your preferred name and where you live (country/region) that would be great.

Thank you. <3

Honestly the fact I vidded at all this year seems improbable, but I did!

+ Children's Work, Star Trek: Discovery, Michael & Spock, for Festivids 2019/20. This was a happy instance of having the song idea already and then it all coming together. It's a beautiful show to vid and the responses to this were very gratifying.

+ Raising Hell, The Good Place, premiered at Vidukon. For a relatively straightforward end result, this was a really torturous vid to make - I had multiple edits of the song, and a lot of stuff that got cut because I was trying to cram too much in before landing on focusing on seasons 3 & 4, so it's not quite the Good Place magnum opus vid of my heart I was hoping it could be. But I do like how it turned out.

+ Love You Like That (Crooked Media RPF, Jon Lovett/Ronan Farrow) - for [personal profile] happydork's birthday and also Fanworks Con. I maintain that I am not in fact in Crooked Media fandom, but I do like Ronan Farrow and after reading Catch and Kill, which alongside being a horrifying indictment of the way society enables powerful men to be sexual predators, also has this throughline that is a very endearing queer love story that Katy and I both love a lot, so I attempted to vid the thing. It's not my first RPF vid but it is the first one about an actual real romantic relationship in the world, which was weird and interesting to navigate! I think it's pretty cute.

Things I liked this year (many of these do not seem like they were in 2020, what is time):

+ The final seasons of The Good Place, She-Ra, and Schitt's Creek were all just what I wanted. Staged is incredible, we've just started the second season now, I wish for no other set in lockdown media, this one is perfect. Netflix was good to me with The Old Guard, Enola Holmes, The Half of It and The Babysitter's Club.

+ Doctor Who season 12 was great, and I have never been so unspoiled for so many exciting DW reveals, that was a rare and wonderful experience - what a difference when it's not front page news in the tabloids!

+ I have not watched any of this season of Star Trek Disco, which I'm sad about! I just struggle with any fiction that may cause Big Feelings at this point, which was very much the vibe I got for this season. In the last six months, nearly everything has either been rewatching or guaranteed to be very very gentle.

+ Critical Role remains a balm in difficult times. When lockdown started and I was first furloughed, I started rewatching the second campaign, thinking that there's a billion hours of content, it'll be interesting to see how far I get before this is all over. I'm now nearing the end of my rewatch of campaign one, and feeling pretty sad that I will probably run out of content before I can hug my friends again.

+ Animal Crossing was the perfect early-quarantine game, as we connected with each other and made things nice and beautiful in a space that we had control over. Hades has been the perfect 6+ months into quarantine game, as you struggle and fail and try again and fail but keeping pulling yourself out of a pool of blood and going on because maybe one day you'll make it to daylight.
