Hi! We’re introducing Important Blue Internet Checkmarks here on Tumblr. They’re a steal at $7.99—that’s cheaper than some other places, when you consider that you get not one but TWO checkmarks for your blog on web only (for now). Why, you ask? Why not? Nothing matters! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
More you might like
Well, hey! Look at that really spooky-sweet group chat @silkirose created. Kind of stinks she had no real easy way to invite her followers. We were seeing these kinds of posts a lot, actually. “All you have to do to find my Cottagecore group chat is search for Cottagecore in the app and try to find it there,” they’d write. Or “message me if you’d like to join my waterfowl group chat,” they’d quack.
We made a simple little update that makes this experience a lot better.
You can now directly link to any group chat
All you have to do is:
- Open up a group chat, tap the group chat name at the top of your screen, and then tap the meatballs menu (●●●).
- Select “Share” and be presented with a delicious share sheet with so many share options.
- Share it within other apps, share it with your contacts, share it with your email, or simply tap “Copy” so you can paste it in a Tumblr post. Sharing is caring.
Happy sharing, Tumblr.
You got it. Good news! No question marks or interrobangs about it.
You can now turn on push notifications for all new messages in any group chat you’re a member of. Just tap the group chat name at the top of the group chat screen and toggle that baby on.
Never miss a message again.
Communities open beta is here
Hello yet again! Last month we began our closed beta test of our new Communities feature, and yesterday we opened up community creation to everyone on Tumblr! You can now request to create a community and it'll be put on a waitlist (pending our approval).
So far we've gotten over 5,800 communities on the waitlist. We'll be working through that list as quickly as we can so y'all can start inviting people and testing this out with us.
If you're curious to learn more about communities, you can check out the Communities Feedback community for a sneak peek and the latest news on how things are going.
We’re excited that you’re so excited about Communities!
Hello, Tumblr. Tumblr here. We’re launching live streaming on Tumblr, and we’re calling it…well, Tumblr Live.
Tumblr Live brings streaming directly to the dashboard, meaning your Tumblr audience and your streaming audience can converge. What’s that, you say? Synergy? Beautiful.
Initially, we’re rolling Tumblr Live out to the US only via our Android and iOS apps. Desktop and international streaming and viewing will follow in time.
Here’s how it works:
- The little 🎥 at the bottom of your dashboard in your mobile app will take you to a Tumblr Live tab, where you’ll be able to scroll through streams that are live at that time—indicated by a green dot. (Your search bar is still there! It now lives in the top right corner of your screen.)
- As long as you keep it clean, you can stream anything that takes your fancy by tapping the “Go Live!” button—ducks in the park, the wonky snowman you built, your cursed cross stitch, etc.
- Streaming works with both front and back cameras, so if you’re camera-shy, you can stream without showing your face.
- You can bestow bouncer status upon your most trusted and loyal viewers, which means they can help you moderate your stream for any nasties while you’re live.
- You can tap on any live avatar to jump into their stream—whether you follow that blog or not.
- You can send little gifts to the streamer during their stream if you’re enjoying what they’re up to.
- You can collect your favorite streamers in a special tab for later.
And that’s it for now. Just imagine! Gaming live streams! Book clubs! Live fungi feed! D’n’D campaigns! Artist live draws! Shark facts! GRWMs! Cosplay and con casts! Knitting hour! Photography tutorials! Storytime! Plant parenting tips! Living room concerts! Furby workshop! Museum tours! Crabs! (just crabs!)
It’s a whole new ball pit out there. We’re so excited to see what you come up with.
Hello Tumblr, Tumblr here. The time has come. We’re rolling Tumblr Live out to more places over the next week.
This means that if you’re in any of the countries or regions listed below, you will be able to watch streams, as well as stream your own Minecraft adventures, your froggy crocheting club, your morning walks, your Furby customization rituals—or, ya know, whatever you’ve got going on there that you want to share with the world.
The aforementioned list:
– Brazil
– Canada
– European Union
– Japan
– Malaysia
– Mexico
– South Korea
– Türkiye
– United Kingdom
So there it is. Go forth and be weird ❤

No one panic. The crabs are back. They're helping us launch TumblrMart on web today, and will be bringing TumblrMart to Android and iOS very soon. You're welcome.
What’s TumblrMart?
TumblrMart is your new storefront for gifting joy to your friends on Tumblr. We’re launching the mart with the ability to gift Ad-Free Browsing and this April Fools’ infamous “Summon Crab!” button, with more features to be added in the future.
You can now give someone the gift of:
- 24 hours’ worth of crustacean chaos ($2.99),
- a month of Ad-Free Browsing ($4.99), or
- a year of Ad-Free Browsing ($39.99).
You can include a little note with your present or even give anonymously—like the benevolent bestower you know you are.
How?
- Find the blog you wish to gift, OR select it from the storefront during checkout.
- You will see a small gift icon on their blog header. Click it.
- A small menu will appear with potential prezzies. Choose one.
- Enter your payment details, and hit “Pay now.”
- The lucky user receives their present.
- Celebrate. You just made someone’s dash more fun! Clack.
What else do you need to know?
- TumblrMart is not the same thing as our Tumblr Shop…
- You currently cannot buy items for yourself on TumblrMart. This is for gifting to other users only.
- Gifted Ad-Free Browsing will begin automatically for the recipient, but users must activate their crabs by clicking or tapping the “Summon Crab!” button that will become visible to them at the top of their dashboard.
- TumblrMart is available globally from today on web. A mobile release will launch soon, which means mobile users will, at long last, be able to join in with the crab infestation. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Anxious about online payment security? Check out this handy graph for total peace of mind. If you have questions, drop us a line on @wip or Support, or keep an eye out for more on @changes.
TumblrMart is out on iOS and Android as of today! This link will take you there directly. This means you can now give the gift of crabs (or Ad-Free Browsing) on the go. The recipient of your gift can enjoy their crabs (or Ad-Free Browsing) on the go. It’s all coming up crabs (and Ad-Free Browsing).
Ready player one, two, three: Twitch comes to Tumblr
We are launching Twitch embeds on web! Simply select the video post option on your dashboard, grab the embed link from the stream you want to share, and paste it into the “Add video from web” field. Click “Post,” and the stream will appear magically on…your post, duh. If you’re a Twitch streamer, you might boost your audience and even make a little pocket money broadcasting here on Tumblr. If you like watching Twitch but want to do more of that from the comfort of your Tumblr dash, well, now you can. So, giddy up: we hope your consoles are on and your headsets poised.
Need to know more? Check out this nifty Help Center article.

Testing: Shorten long posts in your dash
Hello.
We are testing out an optional setting to shorten long posts on the dashboard. We’re initially rolling this feature out to a smaller number of you on web and iOS starting today, March 28, with an Android release to follow soon. We realize this is a significant change to how you interact with your dash. So this will be an optional feature you can easily turn off anytime by visiting your dashboard settings and toggling “Shorten long posts” off.
What does this mean?
Long posts can crowd your dashboard. Some of you find them so annoying that you filter out the tag #long post. This means you could be missing out on posts you might love that also happen to be tagged as #long post. This setting shortens posts to offer a content preview instead—with the option to unfurl the full post by clicking “Expand” on web, or opening the post in a new screen by tapping “View Post” on iOS and Android. Here is a preview of how your dashboard will now appear on web before expanding the full post.

Why are we doing this?
Some of you have told us that long posts can feel like they take over your feed or make it harder to skip uninteresting posts. This feature will allow you to scroll through content more smoothly while also encouraging meaningful interactions—promoting the art, culture, and content you love, curate, and create.
Any questions? Then please drop us a line on @wip or Support, and keep an eye out for more changes on the aptly-named @changes.
This optional feature is now rolling out on Android. It can be turned off anytime by visiting your dashboard settings and toggling “Shorten long posts” off.
This is 100% new and 100% Tumblr with 0% ads.
If you love ads, then this post is not for you. If you love Tumblr but hate ads and want the one to continue without having to endure the other, then this post is literally for you. Hello, you.
As of today, you can set up ad-free browsing on your personal desktop computer, from anywhere in the world, and then enjoy the same effervescent Tumblr you know and love (yes, including mobile) without the interruption of ads. Scroll away.
Some caveats:
- It’s $4.99 for a month of pure, unadulterated nonsense.
- If you like a discount, you can get 33% off (that’s four months for free) at $39.99 for a whole year. Imagine.
- This is opt-in. You don’t have to do this. We won’t make you.
How do you opt in?
Easy! Just go to your Account Settings on desktop and hit "Go Ad-Free." From there, you can choose to pay monthly or yearly:
And that’s it! You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite blogs and posts without any pesky ads getting in the way.
That’s all for now, Tumblr. Back to your blorbos.
You requested, we listened: You can now sign up for Ad-Free Browsing on Android and iOS. Remember that your dash will be ad-free across all platforms once you’ve signed up. That’s all platforms. That’s mobile and web. Ta-da!
Hi! We're introducing Important Blue Internet Checkmarks here on Tumblr. They're a steal at $7.99—that's cheaper than some other places, when you consider that you get not one but TWO checkmarks for your blog on web only (for now). Why, you ask? Why not? Nothing matters! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Okay, your blog looks great, but what's the point of being important online if you can’t prove it with an actual, physical unverified verification symbol?
We felt morally obligated to help you. That's why we made these Important Blue Internet Checkmark Stickers for $3 and Important Blue Internet Checkmark enamel pins for $6. Investing in this is investing in your future. It's the most financially sound investment you can make this fiscal quarter. Also, as a reminder: Nothing matters! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh my god. It’s happening. Checkmarks have breached containment and are now visible on your handheld devices. Nobody panic.
If you’re yet to display your very own personal importance on the internet, please form an orderly queue to get your validation: For Android, simply click on someone else’s checkmarks or head to your account settings in the app. For iOS, you can do the same or click here for speedy access.
