International cooperation supplies international aid to developing countries and emerging economies, typically through projects; to manage these projects, a specific approach based on the “project cycle” was introduced in 1970. In recent decades, many development agencies have adopted the project cycle, but they have also changed it over time, and today agencies work with different standards. In this article, the history of project management systems in international cooperation is reported, and the approaches adopted by five of the main worldwide governmental development agencies are compared. The analysis shows both the common aspects and differences in order to highlight limits and propose further research.

Collaborative research and development (R&D) requires specific management approaches in several aspects including the measurement of R&D performance. This paper aims to contribute to the debate on how performance of different types of collaborative R&D activities should be measured. To this end, we conduct an exploratory research based on case studies, involving four cases of multinational companies in different fields. We show that firms use performance measurement systems for collaborative R&D which are different compared to the ones used for non-collaborative R&D. Furthermore, such performance measurement systems differ depending on the type of collaborative R&D projects that companies are involved in.

The literature is indicating an emerging need for customized tools to model how Triple Bottom Line organizations and nonprofit organizations deriving from social innovation projects have to operate to be economically sustainable. Starting from three editions of the top 100 NGOs as ranked by The Global Journal, NGOs are analyzed and classified according to the way in which they create value, generate revenues and collaborate with other organizations to reach their beneficiaries. This helps in defining the Sustainability Model Canvas, highlighting the peculiarities of the most successful nonprofit organizations and understanding their sphere of action. We rely on the analysis of the cases to describe the most common types of sustainability models. We identify and discuss the distinctive features of Triple Bottom Line organizations and the reasons why these organizations require sustainability models that are different from those used in the for-profit sector. We subsequently introduce...

The consideration of entrepreneurship as a subject that can be taught in universities is widely accepted. Consequently, the number of entrepreneurship courses offered by American universities steeply increased from a negligible amount in 1970 to more than 2,200 courses in 2003. Universities should make important strategic decisions to develop an entrepreneurial environment. The aim of this paper is to study these decisions by analyzing the impact of university research (quantified using research expenditure), Technology Transfer Office (quantified using the number of employees) and professors' profiles (quantified using their entrepreneurial experience, the scientific level of their researches and their relational capital) on the creation of patents and academic spinoffs in the US. For this research, the Association of University Technology Manager (AUTM) database was employed as initial data source. This database was intersected with the Times Higher Education (THE) world ranking to create a selection of 80 US universities. For these universities, we extracted 787 entrepreneurship professors and their attributes. The relevance of this piece of work stems from the need to understand with more reliability the effects of university strategies on entrepreneurial outcomes. Especially, understanding the role and impact of entrepreneurship professor.

Blockchain is a promising and emerging technology. Despite the number of studies on the subject, several studies require further exploration of the relationship between blockchain and social innovation. Moreover, there is an increasing interest in social entrepreneurship and in how technical solutions may address social or environmental issues. Hence, this work aims at understanding how a venture can apply blockchain technology for social good. The study adopts a qualitative approach based on a case study and builds on stakeholder theory as a theoretical background. The case study under review is a social venture working on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 10. Our findings present four peculiarities of blockchain for social good: (i) reliability, (ii) transparency, (iii) decentralization, and (iv) accessibility. Moreover, the present study develops a framework on blockchain for social good based on the possible stakeholders' involvement. Finally, four challenges related...

The advantages of innovation strategies that are based on collaboration with users have been demonstrated by several studies, which have highlighted emerging shifts from a user-centred approach (in which the user is a subject) to a participatory one (in which the user is a partner). The Living Lab methodology, which is a design research methodology aimed at co-creating innovation through the involvement of aware users in a real-life setting, can provide new perspectives in the passage from user-centred to participatory design. In this paper, answers received by 92 Living Labs belonging to the European Network of Living Labs are used to (i) investigate the strategies adopted by Living Labs to involve users in their innovation processes and (ii) analyse the relationships between strategies and achieved innovation performance outcomes. The user-centred strategy positively impacts all innovation performance outcomes (e.g., time, cost, quality and go to market), but only time performance...
