I'm talking to Karolin about what needs to be done. Trying to work on a draft.
Sep 4 2023
Not really, we're progressing slowly. I added what seems to be a related task now.
@ppelberg, did you reach out to @Whatamidoing-WMF or @Trizek-WMF to get the support you're seeking, per my advice?

I was thinking of whatever puts things in a visual format like that map, and/or updating that map.
Jul 19 2023
@Nikerabbit @abi_ Does the team have any mean to turn that list into an image of some sort for better visualization? TY!

If there are further needs, then a new task can be opened. (Seddon to be surveyed for this one, @RZamora-WMF ).
The team LMK that there's no rush. I started a doc for them to work on the language of the questions.
@dr0ptp4kt @SLopes-WMF ping?
(Although I should say, it may also sound like "reporting a user".)

@akosiaris FWIW I have always understood the guideline not to be prescriptive, but to set the direction. While not an affiliate, I think it's a solid case of Movement-adjacent reality. I don't expect a galore of cases if this one is approved (it's the first in years), and we can always revisit if there's an issue with resources. My 2c anyway.

Sorry, not sure I understand. If the syntax is common /but/ wrong or otherwise not recommended or inefficient, shouldn't that syntax just be changed in the first place?

What about this is happening?
Jun 14 2023
@valerio.bozzolan may provide the affiliate support statement.
UserReport is a good idea, short and to the point, IMO better than an acronym.

To further elaborate, my idea is that this dynamic duo will share duties - Luca is to mostly overview the strategic side of things, while Benedict will take care of operations.

We had our first meeting today and I think I have what I need to start working on this request . Given that my team's offsite is a bit in the way, this is not going to reach the public this month.

I believe in the intrinsic value of centralized and translatable documentation. While of course I understand that you will want local convos in local languages, the documentation there will go stale in no time. I recommend you make sure that https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Structured_Data_Across_Wikimedia/Section-level_Image_Suggestions stays relevant anyway, and maybe link to the related convos from there as well.
Jun 6 2023
@Milimetric I'll come up with a plan and LYK when I can, thanks.
Jun 5 2023
Luca and Benedict will coordinate on supporting this team moving forward.
Jun 1 2023
@Mvolz I think we're technically done with the scope of this task? Thanks.
@Milimetric Thanks for filing this. While we're more than happy to help, we as a team have no idea who those users are nor can figure that out in any way different than, well, asking on generic fora, "are you a dump user". Will you give us data about them?
@Cparle Thanks for creating this. I think that this is about you flagging that you'll need a CRS for next fiscal, rather than requesting a specific action from them right now.
May 25 2023
"As expected" would be that I get the list of my contributions. There's no other button for that.
May 23 2023
@JTannerWMF To clarify, if "Telling the community" means telling non-apps users/our desktop contributors, then I think that's uncontroversial. But Bethany's database, IIUC, should have the capability to target app users, which we don't have. Her team can set up micro surveys to ask or tell people things, which we can't. So I think for the Apps teams in particular, as opposed to maybe others, there's probably more margins for CRS and Design Research to actually do things together.
This is absolutely great and TYSM for the above, truly helpful.

We're in a bit of an empasse currently as we're trying to maybe couple this to other pieces that are also candidates for sunsetting, but may ultimately decide not to do it if it delays us too much.
@LGoto @JTannerWMF It sounds to me that some of what you are usually looking for is more on the user research side of things than on the community engagement one.
Can I have more details about what your processes re: the former look like?
I am convinced that at least part of what you want to achieve is actually better channeled through https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Research/Design_Research#Support_for_WMF_teams .

@Mvolz @VPuffetMichel Please let us know if this should be resolved just by adding a note about it in Tech News.

I think I just stumbled on this here, https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Topic:Woh7rhuiccr42fma&action=history, where I tried to ping @Dzahn manually (as opposed to using the @ mention feature) but I don't even know if the ping worked. Per my Mass Message, we're "investigating several options". This is where we're at. As the situation keeps evolving, T336298 will have further details. So rest assured we're seeing your questions and suggestions and are grateful for the interest. Right now though, the folks who could be handling them are the same who are working hard on a solution: thanks for your patience and understanding while they focus on the latter.

I just sent the Mass message, please LMK if there's any problem with it. I'd like to publicly thank my many colleagues at WMF who are working hard to resolve this issue, and I ask for your patience and understanding on the matter. I'll make sure that this task is updated whenever we have anything worth sharing.
I hadn't noticed but this happened to me as well on April 19. I'm about to target 100+ wikis again, crossing fingers :(
@Mstyles ping!

@Seddon will someone announce this in Tech News, need any help with anything community-related...?
May 4 2023
Ciao @Samwalton9 : any other needs re: this task, or are we done here? TY.
@Seddon I see something that looks like an action item for communities at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T334940#8813922 (Vega2 to Vega5 something something).
I'm not sure how much visibility was given to that instruction, or how many communities are actively doing anything about it. Thoughts?

@MPaul_WMF please approve.

This ended up in a deprecated part of our Phab space, but we're already looking into it.
(@Quiddity noting my remark above that should affect the timeline. I hope I can provide a clearer green light in case this actually needs to be added to TN this week already.)
I'll talk to Maryum to understand what the framing of the message will be. I doubt that any comms can go out this week - we don't have a agreed-upon plan, it's the weekend and May 1st is a holiday in several countries. Looking forward to discussing with Maryum to figure out how to go about this all.
