Description

DOMESTIC WATER CONSERVING & WASTE WATER RECYCLING
SYSTEM TECHNICAL FIELD:
The present invention relates to a self-contained domestic system for water conservation by unit wise storage and recycling waste water from washbasins, kitchen sink, washing machines and bathrooms through flush system in individual households.
BACKGROUND & PRIOR ARTS:
Water wars are predicted for the 22nd century globally. Neighbourhoods, Communities, individual states in Federal Nations, Countries world over are expected to face acute shortage of water for sanitation and potable use. Hotels, Hospitals and the like have already started water recycling and reuse systems, both voluntarily and under pressure from government regulators. Many large housing societies have also commenced not only rain water harvesting but also the water used and drained from individual households, collectively at the society or community level.
It is well documented that in rural areas and far flung villages, women folk have to walk long distance to nearest water body to carry daily requirement of water to their homes or huts. In developed villages and towns and even in metro cities, water is delivered through water tankers on a daily basis, even multiple times to meet the domestic requirements. In coming years, this scenario is expected to become more and more critical. It is therefore, essential to seek self-contained solutions for mitigating domestic water shortage for essential use as well as for survival.
According to‘The United Nations World Water Development Report 2018’, more than 2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water and more than double that number lack access to safe sanitation. With a rapidly growing global population, demand for water is expected to increase by nearly one-third by 2050. In the face of accelerated consumption, increasing environmental degradation and the multi faceted impacts of climate change, we clearly need new ways to manage competing demands on our precious freshwater resources.
At present, an estimated 3.6 billion people (nearly half the global population) live in areas that are potentially water-scarce at least one month per year, and this population could increase to some 4.8-5.7 billion by 2050, as reported by World Water Development Report (WWDR). Domestic water use, roughly accounts for 10% of global water withdrawals, and is expected to increase significantly over the 2010-2050 period in nearly all regions of the world.
It is said that“Charity begins at home”. It is therefore, most ideal that individual households and individual bathroom and toilet units are fitted with water recycling facilities and closed systems to conserve water and minimise wastage of otherwise recyclable and reusable water. The present invention is directed towards systems to achieve this much needed and priority objective.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION:
The present invention relates to systems to enable water used in all household activities including bathrooms and wash basins (and sinks wherever possible) to be connected to a flush tank of the toilet directly or through a small storage tank.
Accordingly, the present invention discloses a domestic water conservation and waste water recycling system.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION:
At micro level, the present invention relates to systems to enable water used in wash basins/ kitchen sink, washing machines and bathrooms to be connected to a flush tank of the toilet directly or through a small storage tank. Alternately, the flush tank of the toilet may be designed as a hybrid tank with inlets both through the drainage of the washbasin adjacent to the flush of the toilet and also a regular water inlet connection from external water supply line.
Such a waste water recycling system can be installed in the domestic unit at Macro level by directing all toilet water, bath water, kitchen sink waste water, cloth washing machine water, through a room level, ground level storage tank to an overhead tank on loft, to enable such water to be used in toilet flush systems.
The domestic water conserving and waste water recycling system comprises a plurality of domestic waste water generating outlets (1), a domestic waste water bottom storage tank unit (2), a domestic waste water top storage tank unit (3), a motor (4) for pumping the waste water to the top storage tank unit (3), one or more commode flush tanks (5), a water treatment unit (6), one or more wash-basin/ kitchen sink (7), washing machines and bathrooms, wherein the waste water generating outlets (1) are connected to the said top storage tank unit (3) through the motor (4), and the outlets of the said top storage tank unit (3) is connected to a need based water treatment unit (6), the outlet of which is connected to washbasins and flush tanks (5) as well as other water consuming points.
The domestic waste water generated as in Fig. l from the waste water outlets (1) is pumped by the motor (4) to the top storage tank (3). The domestic waste water stored in the top storage tank (3) can be used for toilet flush system.
In an embodiment, the flush-tank (5) of the commode may be built-in on the wall wherein, the additional space available in case of built-in flush-tank can be utilized for extra/added utilities thereof such as a mirror or a water holding sub-tank.
In another embodiment, a wash-basin (sink) may be built on top of the flush tank (5), for directly connecting the wash-basin (sink) (7) outlet to the flush tank inlet and to save space as in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3.
In an optional embodiment if the system permits, a domestic waste water bottom storage tank unit (2) can be built which acts as a reservoir, with the motor (4) is connected to the outlet of the bottom storage tank unit (2). The motor (4) helps in pumping the water from the bottom storage tank (2) to the top storage tank (3).
It may be noted that the commode type of the present invention may be a squat commode (Italian commode), or a regular (western) commode.
It may further include a basic filtration system at the bottom storage tank (2) before or immediately after the loft storage tank for collecting elements like hair, dirt, etc. The filtration process may be a coarse filtration system which removes large particles like hair, grease, dirt, etc; or a fine filtration system which majorly removes microbes from water. Optionally and in preferred embodiment, an advanced type or model of water purifier, which may be a marketed model (like Kent for complex water treatment) or a tailor-made water treatment unit (6) may be installed on one of the outlets of the upper loft water tank (3) to enable the user to get potable water for cooking and drinking purpose also.
The figures, descriptions and the embodiments described herein are only for demonstration. It is to be understood that the above description is intended to be illustrative and not restrictive. Many embodiments will be apparent to a person skilled in the art upon reviewing the description. The scope of the invention should therefore, be determined not with reference to the above description, but instead should be determined with reference to the claims, along with the full scope of equivalents to which such claims are entitled.
