Description

PATENT SPECIFICATION
A SMEAR TEST APPARATUS
Technical Field
The present invention is about a smear test apparatus to be used for collecting tissue sample from the cervical area.
Prior Technique
The smear test is applied for the diagnosis of the cellular mutations related to cervical cancer or for the detection of the cellular mutations which appear without an ocular change, before cancer develops and the symptoms like bleeding, vaginal flux (leucorrhea) and pain appear.
Collecting cervical tissue sample through the smear test is not painful; being an easy method and being applied without harming the tissue and causing pain. This application method can be in two different ways. In the first way; before the smear test, a vaginal speculum is inserted into the vagina, then the sample is collected from the cervical area through a soft brush (cervibrush) or a special spatula. The spatula means is not preferred a lot because it is not easy and comfortable. The vaginal secretion sample taken through the brush is spread upon a thin glass called stage, the collected cells being made to adhere on the surface of the stage. In this way, the result is obtained more clearly and earlier because there is no loss of cell sample. In the second way; the sample collection is carried out by collecting the sample from the cervical area through the brush.
In the field, being among the previously declared applications, in the International Patent Document No: WO0230289; a personal smear test apparatus is mentioned. The apparatus involves a tissue sampling part which contains long and flexible hair like a mat mounted on the end of a stick. The tissue sampling member with the stick on which it is mounted, can slide with longitudinal and circular moves in a tube inserted into the vaginal cavity. The cylinder is inserted into the vagina and then by pushing and turning through the stick grip, the brush is made to collect tissue sample.
In the field, among the previously declared applications, in the Mexico Patent Document No: MX9705377, a smear test apparatus developed for personal use which is used for collection of tissue from the cervical area is mentioned. The apparatus involves a cylinder whose front and rear ends are open and a circular grip on its back side. In the cylinder, there is a stick with a brush for tissue collection on its end, which can move longitudinally and circularly. Firstly the cylinder is inserted into the vagina and then by pushing and turning through the stick grip, the brush is made to collect tissue sample.
In the field, among the previously declared applications, in the USA Patent Document No: US2002161313, a smear test apparatus developed for the collection of tissue from the cervical area is mentioned. The apparatus involves an insertion tube which includes an insertion position indicator and a guidance member which opens a way in vaginal area for the insertion tube. The vaginal insertion tube involves a depth indicator which lets the user apply the insertion in a proper depth. The tissue sampling member is mounted in the vaginal insertion tube and it extends in the vaginal cavity in a way that it can move longitudinally and circularly.
In the field, among the previously declared applications, in the International Patent Document No: WO0137737, a personal smear test apparatus is mentioned. The Speculum ring can move through the pushing lever. The flexible speculum is inserted into the user's vagina and the collection of tissue sample is carried out with the touch of the sampling end on the cervix by the move of the speculum ring.
In the field, among the previously declared applications, in the International Patent Document No: WO9628092, a smear test apparatus developed for the collection of tissue from the cervical area is mentioned. It involves a tube to be pushed into the vaginal area with a cloth bar which moves in it, on the end of which a brush which contacts with the sample and a handle which is used to push brush for its contact with the tissue. It also contains a smear test kit for personal use.
Women need a doctor or a professional hand in medicine to collect tissue from the cervical area without harming the tissue of the vaginal area. In the prior technique, a practical apparatus to let women do this on their own is not mentioned.
Brief Description of the Invention
The object of the present invention is to develop a smear test apparatus which makes it possible for women to collect tissue from the cervical area by themselves without harming the tissue in the vaginal area.
Detailed Description of the Invention
"A smear test apparatus" which is developed to reach the object of this invention is displayed in the disclosed images and among these images;
Fig 1- Is the perspective view of the smear test apparatus in its closed position
Fig 2- Is the perspective view of the smear test apparatus in its half-open position

The parts in the figures are numbered one by one and the equivalents of these numbers are mentioned below;
100. Smear test apparatus
10. Apparatus head part
11. Brush 12. Side protectives
20. Apparatus body part
21. Handle body
211. The first joint
212. The second joint
213. The third joint

30. Handle
The smear test apparatus (100) which is the subject of the invention basically involves;
- At least one apparatus head part (10) which is inserted into the uterus during the collection of the sample and in which a brush (11) is positioned,
- At least one brush (11) of a soft nature which is used to collect samples from the cervix,
- At least one pair of side protectives
(12) which can be opened sidewards when the handle (30) is pushed and can take in the brush (11) its end being closed when the handle (30) is pulled ,
- At least one apparatus body part (20) which encompasses and protects the handle body (21)and which has notches (22) in it and stops the progress of the handle body(21),
- At least one handle body (21) which has handle (30) on its rear end and brush (11) on its front end, which can be stopped by the notches (22) and joints (211, 212, 213) during the pushing and pulling process in the body, which has joints (211, 212, 213), to make it stop after its progress, and which has a notch (22) on it to open side protectives(12), - At least one first joint (21 1 ) which is positioned on the head part of the handle body (21 ) and which touches and sets the side protectives (12) apart away from each other by the pushing of the handle (30),
- At least one second joint (212) to stop the progress of the handle body (21 ) on the notches (22) which are in the apparatus body part (20) of the brush (1 1), which lets the progress backwards into the apparatus head part (10),
- At least one third joint (213)on the handle body (21 ) which stops the forward progress of the handle body (2l)while the brush (1 1) opens the side protectives (12) and leaves the apparatus head part (10), - At least three notches (22) which extend inwards from the wall (20) of the apparatus (100) body (20) and which stop the movement of the handle body (21) inside.
- At least one handle (30) which is interconnected with the back of the handle body (21) and which makes the brush (11) move backwards-forwards and rightwards- leftwards (360degree) during sample collection.
Operation of the System
By pushing the handle (30), the handle body (30), being activated, moves forward and pushes the side protectives (12) which are around the soft brush (11) and thus, the soft brush head (1 1) which is normally closed for hygienic purpose, appears. By the rotation of (he. handle (30), the body (21) and the brush (11) are made to rotate. The tissue sample is easily collected from the cervix through the rotation action. After the tissue sample is collected, the side protectives (12) which are around the brush (11) are closed again by pulling the handle (100). The handle (30) is rotated (360 degree) and the handle body (21) which is animated by the handle (30), makes the brush (11) rotate and the sample to be collected from cervix adheres on the soft brush (11) easily.
