Abstract
It consists of a laminar element which has the following elements in its cross section, bonded with each other along the surface, from bottom up: vapour insulating film (I), floor/wall insulating layer (2) and floor insulating layer (3) adjacent along one edge of the latter. The floor insulating layer (3) has a thickness (g) equal to the thickness ofthe insulating layer (7) laid on the substrate, and its width (b) is smaller than the total width (B) of the band; in the middle zon∩ of the upper, exposed surface of the walVfloor insulating layer there is a longitudinal slit (4). Double sided adhesive tape (5) with outer surface covered with a protective strip is affixed to the lower surface of the vapour insulating film (1).
Description
CORNER BAND OF THE SUBFLOOR INSULATING LAYER
Technical field The object of this invention is a corner band of the subfloor insulating layer, constituting part of a floor structure with high soundproofing properties.
Background art Multilayer floor structures consisting of an insulating layer of flexible resilient mats laid on the substrate, covered with subfloors of self levelling concretes, are well known. The subfloor is a monolithic thin wall slab, which is then covered by the outer floor surface, made of carpet, hardwood, tiles or panels. Prior to casting the subfloor, the corner between the wall and the floor is filled with a border of flexible insulating material of a height that is slightly greater than the thickness of the subfloor. Thus, the subfloor slab is floating, and the border provides a sideways bounding for the liquid mass of the subfloor and at the same time provides a flexible expansion joint between the subfloor and the walls, which is important because the slab changes its dimensions as the concrete is setting. The comer element also separates the subfloor slab from the vibrations transferred by the rigid building structure. A floor of this design is presented in the Polish description of patent application No. P-337341. In that design the corner element of the subfloor insulating layer has the form of a batten made of a flexible material which is glued to the insulating mat and to the wall.
Disclosure of invention The corner band of the subfloor insulating layer under the present invention is a laminar element which has the following components in its cross section, from bottom up: vapour insulating film, floor/wall insulating layer, and a floor insulating layer which is adjacent to one edge of the latter. The thickness of the floor insulating layer is equal to the thickness of the floor insulating layer laid on the substrate. Its width is less than half the total width of the band. In the middle zone of the upper, exposed surface to the
insulating floor/wall layer there is a longitudinal slit. The slit marks the bending line of the corner band which is laid on the substrate in the perimeter gap between the insulating layer and the wall. The comer band provides a frame to the slab in the wall zone, which is thicker than the rest of the subfloor. As a result, the zone of the slab which carries most furniture loads has a greater strength, therefore the slab can be made relatively thinner. Another effect is the beneficial reduction of internal stress in the subfloor slab and of the strain induced by concrete setting. By increasing the cross section next to the edge of the slab, where setting is always faster than in the middle part, the stabilisation time in the border zone is advantageously lengthened. An extension ofthe invention consists of affixing double sided adhesive tape to the lower surface ofthe vapour insulating film, in the zone between the slit and the edge; the floor insulating layer does not extend above it. With this improvement it is not necessary to apply adhesive manually to the vertical wall.
Brief description of drawings The invention can be fully understood on the example shown in the Figures. Figurς 1 represents a cross section ofthe piece in shelf-stored condition, figurς 2 represents a cross section of a floor corner before the subfloor is cast.
Best mode for carrying out the invention The corner piece is a laminar band made of the following layers, from bottom up: vapour insulating film 1, floor/wall insulating layer 2, and the floor insulating layer 3 adjacent to that layer along one edge. The floor/wall insulating layer 2 and the floor insulating layer 3 are made of polythene foam. The floor insulating layer 3 is made of two layers of foam, each 5 mm thick. The thickness ofthe floor insulating layer 3 is equal to the thickness of the insulating layer 7 laid on the substrate, and is 10 mm. The width b = 5 cm is smaller than half the total width of the band B which is 15 cm. In the middle zone of the upper, exposed surface of the floor/wall insulating layer 2 there is a longitudinal slit 4, at a distance of 9 cm from the edge of the band which is adjacent to the floor insulating layer 3. The lower surface ofthe vapour insulating film 1, in the zone formed between the slit 4 and the edge above which there is no floor insulating layer 3,
there is affixed double sided adhesive tape 5 with the external surface covered with a protective strip.
The concrete floor 6 of the building is covered with an insulating layer 7 made of flexible resilient polythene foam mats. The edges of the adjacent mats are sealed with self adhesive strip. The insulating layer 7 is laid at a distance of 9 cm of the vertical walls 8. The corner band is inserted in the gap and is folded along the slit 4. The next step is to remove the protective strip from the double sided adhesive tape and glue the band to the wall 8. The edge of the corner band which is in contact with the insulating layer 7 is covered by the film glued to their upper surfaces. The mould thus made is filled with subfloor made of self-curing, self-levelling castable. The subfloor, when it has set, is a monolithic thin wall slab, and the upper floor layer is fixed on top of it.
Claims
1. Corner band of the subfloor insulating layer, made of flexible resilient gas tight insulating material, especially of foamed polythene, provides a higher boundary to the insulating layer (7) laid on the rigid floor (6) substrate, itself adjacent to the vertical wall (8), characterized in that it is a layered element composed ofthe following elements bonded to each other on the surface, from bottom up: vapour insulating film (1), floor/wall insulating layer (2) and floor insulating layer (3) adjacent along one edge of the latter; its thickness (g) is equal to the thickness of the insulating layer (7) laid on the substrate, and its width (b) is smaller than the total width (B) of the band; in the middle zone of the upper, exposed surface of the wall/floor insulating layer there is a longitudinal slit (4).
2. Corner band according to claim 1, characterized in that it has double sided adhesive tape (5) with outer surface covered with a protective strip affixed to the lower surface of the vapour insulating film (1) in the zone made between the slit (4) and the edge above which there is no floor insulating layer (3).
3. Corner band according to claim 1, characterized in that the floor insulating layer (3) is made of several layers of foamed polythene bound with each other along the surface.
