Abstract

The increasing development of flat liquid crystal and TFT monitors underlines the need to reduce the space taken up in offices as well as to reduce the size of computer systems/office workstations which are still rather voluminous. Moreover, with standard PC casings the connections/links of external cables placed at the rear are openly visible, and both optically and technically, often get in the way. The invention, therefore, concerns a universal compact and easily accessible computer casing, comprising one leg serving as a passage both for cables and ventilation, designed to integrate standard components on the market. Said casing consists of two half-casings having an appropriate arrangement/assembly of components (one half comprising the mainframe and the other the appliances), which can be brought closer to or spaced part from each other by tilting, closed, disassembled and, furthermore, enlarged. Such a casing enables to reduce space requirement by 50 % and provides a support surface corresponding to the specified physical quantity specified by DIN A4 or less than that. On said base casing, various enlarging modules can be mounted. The areas of use for said casings is by no means limited to PC's comprising Intel/AMD central units, but also cover all other computer systems (RISC systems among others); in the latter case, only the half casing comprising the mainframe should be modified, whereas the half containing the appliances which are standard appliances on the market found in almost all computer systems can be maintained, thereby reducing costs and complexity.
