Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for external fixation of broken bones, in particular the extremities.
- a device of this type is used to stabilize certain bone fractures with relatively little surgical effort. It has "bone nails" which are anchored in the bone on both sides of a broken bone, as perpendicular as possible to the axial direction of the broken bone. They are introduced through the skin and soft tissue coat. The bone nails on both sides of the fracture are then connected outside of the body by means of crossbars (preferably running in the axial direction of the broken bone) via connecting elements.
- the disadvantage of the known device is that the cross bars are rigid and straight, so that a complex frame construction is required for stabilization in several levels. This frame construction tion, especially when it has to bridge angles (for example of a flexed joint), is bulky and relatively difficult to adapt to the anatomical contours. This often results in a relatively long lever arm when z. B. the distance between the anchoring of the bone nail in the bone and the connection of the bone nail to the crossbar becomes too large.
- the object of the invention is to provide a device of the type mentioned, which is better adapted to the anatomical conditions.
- FIG. 1 shows a first embodiment of the device according to the invention, only a single bone nail being shown to illustrate the articulation of the multi-joint rod
- FIG. 3 shows a representation corresponding to FIG. 2 with a modification of the rod members
- FIG. 4 shows a representation corresponding to FIG. 2 with a further modification of the rod members
- FIG. 5 shows the device according to FIG. 1 attached to a finger
- FIG. 7 shows a modification of the embodiment of FIG. 6,
- FIG. 13 shows an embodiment of the device according to the invention constructed from the members of FIGS. 9, 10, 11 and 12, attached to a finger, and
- FIG. 14 shows a further embodiment of the device according to the invention with tension wire.
- FIG. 1 shows a multi-joint rod with links 1 which, as can also be seen in FIG. 2, have a spherical head or ball 2 at one end and a ball socket 3 at the other end.
- One link of the multi-joint rod lies with its ball 2 in the ball socket of the adjacent link, so that adjacent links can be moved relative to one another like a ball joint.
- the links 1 are held together by a tension wire 4 which runs in axial bores 6 of the links (FIG. 2) and is fastened at one end to an end link 7 and opens into a tensioning link 8 at its other end.
- the links are thread-like on the tension wire.
- each bore is flared in the region of the ball end. It is also possible to expand the bore in the area of the ball socket conically.
- a bone nail 9 is placed on certain of the limbs 1.
- the bone nail 9 can be attached to one or more links, for example in the manner shown in FIG. 1, releasably with a clamp 10 which can be tightened by means of a screw and thus clamped onto the bar links.
- the bone nails 9 can be height-adjustable by screw adjustment.
- the tensioning wire 4 of the multi-joint rod is first slightly tightened by means of the tensioning device 8, so that the individual links are maintained in their relative position by the beginning frictional engagement between the links.
- the multi-joint rod is brought into the desired shape by hand and then held in its shape by complete tensioning of the tensioning wire 4 by means of the tensioning device 8 and also against loads.
- a knurled nut, which is screwed onto a threaded end of the tension wire, a toggle device or the like can be used as the tensioning device 8.
- a first type of links la has only spherical surfaces, ie only spheres, while a second type of links 1b only has ball sockets. Links of one type alternate with links of the other type, whereby in the case of the embodiment of FIG. 4 the links la with the spherical surfaces are themselves spheres in the actual sense.
- the ball joint movement is limited in all of the described embodiments by lateral stops 12 on the edges of the ball and ball socket.
- the conical widening of the bores 6 is matched to the swivel deflections that are possible in this way.
- Fig. 5 shows the described embodiment with three bone nails attached to a finger.
- FIGS. 6 to 13 A further embodiment in modifications results from FIGS. 6 to 13.
- the links 1 are not threaded onto a tension wire here, but are plugged together.
- the ball and ball socket of each link extend geometrically over more than one hemisphere, so that connected links cannot separate from each other.
- the insertion of a ball into a ball socket is made possible by side slots 15, which allow the ball socket to expand elastically when a ball is pressed into a ball socket.
- the slots allow a ball socket 3 to be pressed onto a ball 2 located therein, so that the fixing of adjacent links 1 in their relative position can be carried out by a clamping band 16 with a clamping bracket 17 which girdles a ball socket 3.
- Clamping straps and clamps can be made of plastic, which is light.
- the slots in the Ball pans are also eliminated. Even without slots, the balls can then be pressed into the ball sockets and the ball sockets pressed onto the balls using the clamping bands.
- the present embodiment has the advantage that the length of the multi-bar can be shortened or lengthened as desired by adding additional and removing existing links 1. Unlike in the first embodiment, there is no dependency on the length of a tension wire. This also enables the use of length-variable members 21, as shown in FIG. 10, particularly well. The variability in length is provided by an axial division of the link 21, whereby in the embodiment shown in FIG. 10 a union nut 18 is rotatably but axially fixed on one of the two link members, and this nut engages with an external thread of the other link member is.
- the length variability of a link mainly serves to adjust the bone nail 9 along the bone
- the bone nail 9 shown in FIG. 10 is also height-adjustable at the same time.
- the height adjustment can in turn take place by means of a nut which is rotatably mounted on a partial link and which engages with a threaded shaft of the bone nail.
- 11 shows a length-adjustable member 21 with a height-adjustable bone nail 9 in one embodiment as End link with ball socket 3.
- the bone nail 9 is attached similarly to the embodiment of FIG. 1.
- the attachment of the bone nail 9 according to FIG. 7 corresponds to that according to FIG. 10 or 11, but with a rod member which is not adjustable in length.
- Fig. 14 shows an embodiment corresponding to that of Fig. 1, with the difference that the ball sockets 3, as in the embodiments shown in Figs. 6 to 13, extend over more than one hemisphere, so that the links 1 are independent of the presence of the tension wire 4 are held together.
- the ball sockets can be slotted, as shown in FIG. 8, for example, if, due to the material or the like selected, the balls cannot be pressed into the ball sockets when the members are joined together.
- the slots can also be omitted. This is preferably the case if the links are made of plastic.
- a tension wire is used in the embodiments of FIGS. 1 and 14 to determine the relative positions of the individual links.
- each link is individually fixed with respect to the subsequent link by a clamping band surrounding a ball socket.
- the fixing is done by a kind of sliding sleeve which is pushed towards the base of the cone to clamp the links.
- a bayonet-like locking by turning the sliding ring at the end of the clamping movement is also advantageously possible.
- the sliding sleeve can also be provided in a screw version in the manner of a union nut. In order to make the sliding sleeve captive, it is expedient to provide the taper in such a way that the cone tapers from the end to the middle of the link.
- the preferred material for the links of the multi-joint rod is stainless steel or plastic, the bone nails themselves being made of metal or stainless steel.
- the choice of material is determined by strength, elasticity, friction behavior and sterilizability.
