From German Patent 441 479 it is known to provide a groove-like depression on the seat of a chair so that the tailbone does not come to rest! The overlying sections of the spine of the seated are still burdened by the backrest, so that complaints of various kinds occur in the seated.

The object of the invention is to provide a surface for supporting the back of a person, which enables such a favorable support of the human back that the person sits free of complaints.

This object is achieved in that the surface, in particular the backrest, which supports the back, also runs in the direction of the spine has central channel, the width of which is equal to or greater than the width of the spine and the depth is so great that the spine does not touch the surface.

This ensures that the spine of the seated person is kept completely free of any pressure over its entire length. Disturbing contact pressure loads are thus prevented with certainty, so that the person sits without symptoms. Sensitive nerve tracts are kept free from harmful pressure and permanent loads in the entire spinal area, so that in particular spinal disc damage and diseases of the internal organs cannot occur. It is preferably proposed that the depth of the channel be less than the thickness of the surface padding. Alternatively, the depth of the channel can be equal to the thickness of the surface padding.

In order to achieve optimal support for the legs, it is proposed that the front area of the seat surface be higher than the rear area. For visual reasons, it is advantageous if the channel of the seat surface ends in front of the front edge, since the front of the seat surface can then be carried out continuously. For the same reasons, it is also proposed that the channel of the backrest ends before the top edge.

It is particularly advantageous if the connection between the seat surface and the backrest is formed by a convex or concave curved region which has a channel which connects the channels of the seat surface and the backrest to one another. A further improvement in the support of the back of the body is achieved in that a cup-shaped support is arranged in the rear area of the seat on either side of the channel.

Simple manufacture and low weight are created if the surface, seat surface and / or backrest is formed by one or more air chambers. The walls between the air chambers can be perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the duct.

An optimal adaptation of the surface to the seated person can be achieved if the height and inclination of the seat surface can be changed by the support parts or construction.
