DESIGN FOR THE SIDE-FRAMES OF SCHOOL-DESKS.
The Scheduie referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, Ansnomr FRANKLIN OLD, of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented or produced a Design for the Side Frame of a School-Desk, of which the following is a specification.
The figure in the accompanying drawings represent one of the side frames of a school-desk made in accordance with my design.
The side frame consists of a light open-work casting supported upon two feet or legs, a and b, the former of which is straight and slightly inclined from the perpendicular, while the latter is curved, as shown.
At the top of the frame there is a rib, c, inclined at an angle corresponding to that of the top of the desk, and at a short distance beneath the said rib there is another horizontal rib, d.
The space between the legs a and b is occupied by two scroll-like ornaments, e and 0, and by a solid medallion or ornament, f, the whole being arranged as shown.
The ribs 0 and d at the top of the frame are united by lattice-work, g, composed of curved strips crossing each other, and arranged in a manner which is so clearly shown in the drawings as to render minute description unnecessary.
