WILLIAM G. OODMAN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR To GOR- HAM MANUFACTURING COMPANY,
OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS; FORKS, OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,780; dated March 4, 1902;
Application filed Pebruaiy 6, 1902. Serial No. 92,923. Term of patent 7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concer'h:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. CODMAN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, or SimilarArticles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a view of the obverse, and Fig. 2 a view of the reverse, side of a handle, showing my design. The handle is shown attached to the bowl of a spoon, the tined blade of a fork being indicated in broken lines.
The leading feature of my design consists in the representation of the stems, leaves, buds, and flowers of the poppy in relief and so arranged as to form borders and panels on the handle.
The handle is fastened to the article to which it is to be attached at its narrowest end, near which is a bulbous enlargement connecting with the stem, which broadens and then sharply contracts at its connection with the blade of the handle, the end of which is broadened and terminates in an irregular shaped edge. The obverse side of the handle has on the stem the representation of leaves and buds, forming borders and overlapping in 0' places, and on the blade leaves, buds, and flowers of the poppy, forming an irregularshaped panel. On the reverse side the stern has the representation of flowers, leaves, and stalks, forming an oblong-shaped panel, and 35 on the blade leaves, buds, and flowers, forming an irregular-shaped panel, the irregular shaped edge of a poppy-flower forming the end of the handle.
Having described my invention, what I 46 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the handle of a spoon, fork or similar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM G. CODMAN.
