`TOI-IN S. JENNINGS, OF BROOKLYN, E. D., NEW YORK.
Design No. 3,413, dated March 23, 1869.
DESIGN FOR A CHAMBER-FAIL.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
mwa-
To all twhom lit 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. JENNINGS, of Brooklyn, E. D., Kings county, New York, have invented a new and original Design for Chamber-Fails; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an original design for the form and construction of chamber-pails, as hereinafter shown and described.
rlhe drawing represents a perspective view of a pail ,constructed according to my design.
The main portion A of' the pail, and the base thereof, are constructed according to the common form.
I make the upper rim, B, broader than in the common construction, whereby a more pleasing form is presented to the eye, and the pail is better adapted, mechanically, to prevent spilling the contents. Also, projecting from the said upper part B, at one side, I arrange a broad spout, or mouth, O, and I provide a cover, D, fitting both the circular portion of the top of the vessel and the projecting spout, the said cover being provided with a curved depression at E, whereby the metal ou the under side is caused to assume the form of the edge of the spout.
Another' circular groove, F, is formed around the top of the pail, beginning at one end of the said groove F, and terminating at the other; and another groove, G, is formed in a straight line between the ends of the two grooves E and F. The surface between the grooves G and E is made plain.
An interior vertical ange is provided on the lever, projecting downward around the top of the pail, except at the mouth.
It will be observed that the arrangement o the mouth and the corresponding part of the cover is such that the pail may be opened by turning the cover around, instead of lifting it ofi' the vertical flange of the cover, keeping it in its central position.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for chamber-pails herein set forth and shown.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 8th day of February, 1869.
JOHN S. JENNINGS.
