Description
dond eine 5J. H. I-IoBBfs, or WHEELING, weer VIRGINIA. l i I LemsPacem'No. 89,996, M11/11,- 1869. I
I IMPROVE!) PITCHER I n l y I The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern ne it known than, J. II. HoBBs, 0f Wheenngin thecounty of Ohio, andState of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improved vPitcherf and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact descn'ptionof the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specifica- Figure l is aside elevation. 1 I Figure 2, `a vertical section on line :1 x. Flgure 3, a vertical section online y y.
The same letters in the several igures indicate iden` tical parts;l I I I My invention-relates to that class of .Sirup or punchpitchers which is made of Alglass `or earthenware, and
is covered by'a metallicA top; and
My improvement consists in forming a part of thev top or cover from the material from which the body of-the pitcher is made, and'alsofin `a more convenient l uiode of attaching the hinged cover, a d also iu constructing the body of the pitcherwith ugs or projections, to which the metallic sockets of a handle of metal or other suitable material lmay be attached;
In the annexed drawingg. V I Ais the body of the pitcher, which may' be constructed `of any desired form, about one-half of the top of the pitcher being covered by the material of `which I` theI body is composed, as shownat a, leaving an openingfon the side adjoining the spout, of aboutV half the I area of the top of the pitcher.
I' The hinged top covers, Ywhen closed, this opening,
Eiavng a projecting lip, which covers, also, the spout.
This-top is attachedto the'band b by hinges b. This band 7 fits over the t0n nortion a of the pitcher,
witnesses.
and is constructed with bent anges'l, which may be slid forward over the llet encircling the top, a.'
The band Iis also constructed with `ears b, attached under the hinges, which, when the band is slid for-V ward until the hinges are over the edge of the curved portion a, may be bent down under the'bevelledjedge of the top, a, and thus secure the metallic cover in place. Y
In order that handles may be attached of a different material from that used in constructing the body A of the pitcher, the latter is moulded with two projections, C and G', as shown, having ndentations c c, as shownon opposite sides thereof. l
The handle may be made entirely of metal, or it may l jections C C', to receive the sockets of the handle, a
portion of the cover, a, formed of the same material with the body, and a hinged cover, B, attached thereto, substantially.' as set forth. I I
In testimony whereof, I have signed m'y name to this specication, in the presence of two subscribing I .J H, HOBBS.
