UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUSTIN F. JACKSON, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CANDLESTICK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,260, dated August 23, 1898. Application filed July 21,1898. Serial No. 686,548. Term of patent 14 years.
To will whmn it nuty concern:
Be it known that I, AUSTIN F. JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, havo invented and produced a new and original Design for Candlesticks,of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a candlestick, showing my new design. Fig. 2 is a top plan View thereof. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view thereof; and Figs. 4, 5, 6, and 7 are cross-sectional views on about line 4 4, 5 5, [3 6, and 7 7 of Fig. 1.
My design, as shown, includes the head or top portion above the line marked 1, the base portion below the line marked 2, and the intermediate or shank portion, the head portion A, shank portion B, and base 0 being ornamented, as shown and presently described. In plan and cross-section the candlestick presents a form simulating a scalloped ellipse, as shown in Figs. 2 to 7, inclusive, this characteristic being preserved throughout the candlestick.
The top A has its upper portion dished from side to side at D and is provided with the fluted scalloped ribs E, surrounding and slightly below the dished top part D. Below the flutes E the candlestick is contracted on compound curves at F to the upper end of the vertically-fluted portion G, on one side of which, at H, is produced the foliated ornaments I, and at the lower end of the rib portion G is formed a short annularly-grooved connection J, at the lower end of which the shank B is slightly depressed at K and merges into the descending longitudinal ribs L,which curve inwardly at L, thence outwardly at L and inwardly again at L and meet the short an nularlygrooved connection M,below which is produced the cylindrical portion N, ornamented by the bead-like projections N, and below which is produced the annularlygrooved connection 0, below which is formed the base having the scrolls C, which gradually widen from their inner upper ends to their outer ends, as shown at G in Fig. 1, such scrolls having the appearance of resting upon the scalloped stepped beads P, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The design fora candlestick, as herein shown and described.
2. In a design for a candlestick, the design for the top, as herein shown and described.
3. In a design for a candlestick the design for the shank as herein shown and described.
4. In a design for a candlestick, the design for the base as herein shown and described.
AUSTIN F. JACKSON.
