W. E. HARRIMAN. HANDLE SOCKET PIECE FOR HAND SGRAPERS.
No. 28,568. Patented May 10,1898.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILBUR E. IIARRIMAN, OF NORTH OIIATIIAM, NE\V HAMPSHIRE.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE SOCKET-PIECE FOR HAND-SCRAPERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,568, dated May 10, 1898.
Application filed March 80, 1898. Serial No. 675.806. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILBUR E. HARRIMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Chatham, in the county of Carroll and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and original Design for a Handle Socket-Piece for Hand-Scrapers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a handle socket-piece for handscrapers; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in an elongated body having a tubular socket portion tapering into a contracted cylindrical neck intermediate the ends of the body and a conico-elliptic foot portion at the end opposite the socket portion, said foot portion being provided at its widest end or base with a con tinuous fiat annular flange projecting outwardly in a plane at right angles to the length of the body, the complete flange at the base of said foot portion being of a diamond shape.
A minor feature of the design resides in having the diamond-shaped flange at the base of said foot portion provided with rounded corners.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a handle socket-piece for handscrapers embodying the herein-described design. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view thereof on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates an elongated body provided with a cylindrical tubular socket portion 2. The tubular socket portion 2 tapers from one end of the body into a contracted cylindrical neck 3, which is located intermediate the ends of the body, and from the neck 3 the said body is flared at the end opposite the socket portion 2 into a conicoelliptic foot portion 4. The couico-elliptio foot portion 4 by reason of its elliptical form is necessarily of a greater width in one direction than in the other, and at its base or widest end the said eonico-elliptie portion is provided with a continuous flat annular flange 5. The flange 5 projects outwardly from the foot portion and is disposed in a plane at right angles to the length of the body, the complete flange 5 being in the form of adiamond figure and having rounded corners 6.
What I claim is The design for a handle socket-piece for hand-scrapers, herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILBUR E. IIARRIMAN.
Witnesses:
