SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,144, dated January 1 1, 1898.
Application filed A t 6, 1897. Serial No. 647,378. Term of patent 3 years.
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. GRINDLEY, acitizen of Great Britain, residing at Congleton, in the county of Chester. England, have invented a certain new and original Design for a Ewer; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side view of a ewer embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is a top view and partial section on the plane of the line 2 2 in Fig. l.
The leading features of my design are as follows:
The body of the ewcrA is oblong in shape, projecting forward at a and rearward at a and laterally at a" and a'. Looking at it from the side it is seen to curve downwardly from the lip and inwardly at m from the top, then outwardly at a and a, and slightly upward at g and y, and then sharply down ward to the base at z and 2', where it turns outward at e and e to form a fiat base provided with irregularly-arrangedoutward projections, as 71, h, h", &c., terminating at the bottom in substantially the same horizontal plane.
The lip of the ewer D is formed of a continuous smooth curve projecting sharply outwardlyat d, convexly upward at d, and downward at d", whence it sweeps backward to the rear wall 0' of the ewer, where the handle is afiixed.
The bod y of the ewer is d i vidcd in to panels on each side a. middle panel G and at each end a pair of panels F and F, divided by the medial outside boundary lines f and f and bounded right and left by the lines g" and g', which gradually lose themselves upward in the body of the ewer. Each side panel G is provided with an embossed ornamentation of leaf-like curved forms j and j. projecting upward from a central meeting point j. Similar slightlyembossed ornamentations project upward from the outer edges of the panels F and F.
The handle is composed of curved forms with projecting knobs.
Vhat I claim is The design fora ewer substantizill y as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribin g witnesses.
