D8-392. OR 0261743 EX DESIGN.
T. J. JETT. RAILROAD SPIKE.
No. 26,743. 2 Patented Mar. 9, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
THOMAS J. JET, OF IIARRIMAN, TENNESSIIE, ASSIGNOR Oh ONE-HALF TO L. TYLER DAVIS, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A RAILROAD-SPIKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,743, dated. March 9, 1897.
Application filed November 10, 1896. Serial No. 611,682. Term of patent 7 years.
1'0 all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. JETT, a citizen of the United States, residing, at Harriman, in the countyof Roane and State of Tennessee, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Railroad-Spikes; and I do declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an original design for a railroad-spike.
The design relates to the entire configuration of the spike.
Myinvention relates particularly to the design fora railroad-spike as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective viewof a railroad- 2o spike embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the horizontal broken line of Fig. 1.
The leading features of my design appear in the following description.
1 represents the spike, of which is the usual head and 3 the tapering quadrilateral point. The body 4 of the spike is square in cross-section, and the front side 5 is a true plane, while the back (I and the two sides 7 and S are formed with a. series of projecting o ribs 12, 1 5, and 14, each one having an inclined face 15 and a curved shoulder 16. The back (J of the spike is also formed with an additional rib 17, approximately in the same plane as the lip 18. 5
By referring to the vertical dotted line a I) in Fig. 1,which is parallel with the front face 5 of the spike, it will be seen that beginning with the rib 12, which is the lowermost one, the distance between the front face and the ribs above the lower one gradually increases as they approach thehead, the rib 1 extending a greater distance than the rib 1'. and the rib It a greater distance than the rib 13.
Having thus fully described my railroadspike, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patentof the United States, is-
The design for a railroad-spike, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
