DESIGN.
B. NADALL. PONT 0F TYPE. No. 25,741. Patented June 30, 1896.
ABCDEFGHUKLMNODOQSTUVWXYZQ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERNE NADALL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE BARNHART BROS. & SPINDLER, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,741, dated June 30, 1896.
Application filed April3,1896. Serial No. 586,141. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LBERNE NADALL,a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for a Font of Type, which is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
This design comprises capitals, character It, dollar-mark, figures, points, logotypes CA, LT, LY, elevated O with underscore, and two ornaments.
The design is of a style which may be called geometricah being largely made up of light and heavy lines having the appearance of being made with a ruling-pen, joining each other angularly wherever the form of the letter permits; all straight lines being without swell, and all lines being devoid of ceriphs or analogous terminal characteristics. The characteristic of A is a circumiiex centrally swell shaded set very low. The characteristic of H is a similar circumtlex set very high. The ovals of P and R occupy three-fourths of the height of the stem. The logotype CA has the C in the form of about three-fourths of a circle, comprisinga swell shade merging in hair-strokes, the left hand oblique stroke of the A terminating in the lower curve of the C, which curve extends up across the characteristic of the A, terminating just above the latter. The character is produced to the left in an upward flourish which terminates about midway in the C in a short crescent swell shade. Logotypes LT and LY have the horizontal stroke of the L, which is a hair-line, extending underneath the upper portion of the other letter T or Y, making a condensed character of the two letters thus combined. Elevated O of the font is associated with a swell shade resting on the line. One of the ornaments shown consists of a light vertical line having a diamond swell about midway its length and terminating in a diamond or arrow-head point at the upper end, flanked on each side a little below the arrow-head terminal by a small crescent having the outer horn blunted or rendered approximately globular, and having a dot at each side of and a little below the lower end. The other ornament shown is a radial group of conventional leallets. All lines are without ceriphs or other transverse terminals.
I claim" The design for afont of type herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, in the presence of two witnesses, at Chicago, Illinois, this 12th day of March,
BERNE NADALL. Witnesses:
L. W. JoHNsToNE, JEAN ELLIOTT.
