ENOCII ALONZO THOMPSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
DESIGN FOR A VlOLlN-BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,336, dated May 28 1895.
Application filed April 6, 1395- Serial No. 544,824. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ENOCH ALONZO THOMP- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Violin-Body, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof, in which the figure is a plan View of the body of a violin constructed in accordance with my design.
In its general outline and appearance the violin body resembles those of ordinary construction, but the leading feature of my design lies in the contour of the sound holes provided in the front-plate of the violin body. As shown in the drawing these sound-holes are long slots having inwardly turned ends, the lower ends being much larger than the upper ends, and the slots are tapered and gradually decrease in size until they merge into the small openings which form the upper end thereof. The curves of the slots correspond nearly to the curves of the C-bouts, but gradually leave the same at the top.
I claim as my invention-- The design for a. violin body, substantially as described and shown.
