DESIGN FOR CUTLERY HANDLE-TIPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,1 16, dated August 26, 1890. Application filed July 28, 1890. Serial No. 360,223. Term of patent 7 years.
To (LIZ whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, (InAnLEs F. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cutlery Ilandle- Tips, of which the following isaspccitication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which the only figure is a side elevation of a knife and handle showing my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in the ornamental tips at the respective ends of the handle.
a designates the tip at the shank or bolster end of the handle; I), the tip at the opposite end, and c the body of the handle, which is of the usual oval form and tapers toward what is usually termed the butt-end, although in the present instance said end is the smaller.
The tip a consists mainly of a short tapering portion 1 and abeaded portion 2, the sur faces of which portions are ornamented with scroll figures, as shown. The parts 1 and 2 are divided by anarrow band, and there is a narrow band at each end.
The tip (1 has a band 3 at its largest end, which joins the hamlle-body, and the contour or outline of said tip is in the form of a horn. Its sides are ornamented with scroll figures, as shown, the outer scroll figures being nearly parallel with the upper edge of the tip and extending nearly its whole length.
\Vhat I claim isl. The design for handle-tips herein shown and described, the same comprising the tip a, with its tapering and headed portion having scroll ornaments, and the tip b, horn-shaped in side view and having the scroll ornamentation, as set forth.
2. In the design for knife-handle tips herein shown and described, the tip a, having the tapering and beaded portion with scroll orna- Incubation, as set forth.
3. In the design for the knife-handle tips herein shown and described, the tip (I, hornshaped in side view and having the scroll ornaments, as set forth.
