Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY CLAY BASCOM, OF LANSINGBURG, AND FRANCIS RITCHIE, OF TROY,
ASSIGNORS YORK, N. Y.
TO THE SIMONDS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NEW DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design N 0. 19,768, dated April 2 2, 1890.
Application filed March 15, 1890. Serial No. 344,055. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HENRY CLAY BASCOM and FRANCIS RITCHIE, citizens of the United States, residing in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, the said BASCOM at the village of Lansingburg and the said RITCHIE at the city of Troy, have invented and produced a. new and original Design for Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, and consisting of a single figure affording a view in perspective of our newly-designed stove.
\Ve embody our design in a heating-stove havin gapproximatcly the cross-sectional form of a trapezoid through its various horizontal planes, the line formed by the front side of the stove being parallel with the back side, but a little shorter, the other two sides or ends converging equally toward the front side, to which they are joined by rounded corners. The top plate of the stove is surmounted by an ornamentaldome or cover havin g its plan outlines approximately semi-elliptical in form, the straight side being in the same vertical plane with the back side of the stove; and the invention consists in the conformation and ornamentation substantially as illustrated and herein described and claimed.
A represents the front side of the stove, and A the contiguous sides, which are substantially alike in form and ornamentation, and may be called the ends.
A is the ash-pitsection, which is surrounded on three sides, at the bottom, by a horizontal projecting base A outlined by the plain edge A Midway of the base-p1ate,on the front side, is an ornamental figure A consisting of a conventionalized lotus between two scrolls with honeysuckle terminals. At either side of the central figure is a foliatcd wave-line rib, terminating near each front corner of the stove in a scroll.
On the baseplate, at the ends of the stove, are a series of connected foliated wave-lines with scroll terminals.
The top 13' of the ash-pit section separates that section from the fire-box section B, and consists of a convened shelf-like projection extending horizontally along the front and converging sides, ornamented with a beaded outer border-B separated by a plain band B from itsinner border, which is ornamented by foliated wave-line ribs with scroll terminals.
The firebox section is separated from the illuminating-section C by the horizontal beaded border 0'.
The doors C of the illuminating and firebox sections are ornamented by the vine-like scrolls 0'', having scroll-shaped branches and surrounding the mica openings (3*.
The top D has an inner border D with an unornamented inclined surface, and an outer border D with a convex unornamented surface, inclosing between such borders an ornamented band extended horizontally along the front and converging sides of the stove, and having in the front part of the band the letters Crest." Surmounting the top is a dome or cover E, semi-elliptical in plan outline, and having around the curved portion of its base two horizontal rows E of small openings, one above the other, the individual openings in the upper row being egg-shaped and those in the lower row tongue-shaped, also a plain band E extending horizontally around the dome above the upper row of openings, and ornamental foliated scrolls in the space between the band and row of openings and extending from such band to the apex of the dome.
Having thus described our new design, what we desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is 1. The design for a stove herein shown and described, consisting of an ash-pit section having an ornamented horizontally-projecting base, a fire-box section above the ash-pit section and separated therefrom by an orna- In en ted convexed shelf-like projection, an illuminating-section above the fire-box section, and an ornamented convened top surmounted by a semi-elliptical dome, the cross-sectional form on horizontal planes of all the parts named, except the dome, being that of a trapezoid, with the front and back sides parallel and the other two sides or ends converging equally toward the front side.
2. In a design for a stove, the ornamental design for an ash-pitbasc, consisting of acentral lotus and honeysuckle figure on the side projecting from the front of the stove between two foliated Wave-line ribs terminating near each front corner of the stove in a scroll form, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a design for a stove, the design for an ash-pitlop, consisting of a convexed shelf-like projection on the front and ends of the stove, having a ribbed outer border and an inner border ornamented by foliated wave-line ribs with scroll terminals, substantially as dcscribed and shown.
4. In a design for a stove, the design for a stove-door, consisting of the vine-like scrolls having scroll-shaped branches and surrounding the mica openings, substantially as described and shown.
5. In a design for a stove, the design for a top, consisting of an inner border with an unornamented inclined surface and an outer border with a convex nnornamented surface inclosingan ornamented band extending horizontally along the front and ends of the stove,
and having in the front part the letters Crest, substantially as described and shown.
(i. In a design for a stove, the design for a dome, consisting of two horizontal base-rows of small openings, one above the other, the individual openings in one row being eggshaped and those in the other row being tongue-shaped, a plain band extending horizontally around the dome above the upper row of openings, and ornamental foliated scrolls in the space between the band and row of openings and between such band and the apex of the dome, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto set our hands this 3d day of March, 1890.
