No. 18,391. Patented June 19. 1888.
INVENTOR. w
ITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
A. IRVING GRIGGS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION OF SHEET METAL.
EPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,391, dated June 19,1888.
Application filed May 7, 1889. Serial No. 273,137. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, A. IRVING Games, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Ornamentation of Metal, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My design is intended for the ornamentation of sheet metal; and it consists of representations of sprays of raised flowers and leaves arranged in irregular and nnstudicd order upon the surface, the spaces between the several detached sprays being filled orstuddcd with small raised stars, also arranged in irregular and nnstudied order.
In the accompanying drawing, which repre sents a piece or fragment of sheet metal ornamented with my design, aa are patterns, in relief, of sprays of flowers and leaves, each spray being composed ofa flower and leaves and being detached from the others, and said sprays being scattered or distributed in an irregular manner over the entire surface, as shown. The spaces between the spraysa are filled or studded with raised stars b, arranged, also, in an irregular manner.
In saying that the several sprays of flowers and leaves and the intermediate stars are ar ranged in an irregular manner I mean that they are not arranged in lines or rows and equally spaced, and that there is no obvious recurrence of the same spray on the same line at regular distances apart.
The several sprays a a are somewhat convcutionalizcd representations of daisies and similar flowers.
Having thus described my design, I claim The herein described design for the ornamentation of sheet metal, which consists of the raised patterns of flowers and leavcsarranged upon the surface in detached sprays a (I, placed in irregular and nnstudied order, and the in tervening raised stars I) 1), arranged in irregu lar and nnstndied ordcron Ihesurface between said sprays a a, as shown.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses A. IRVING GRIGGS.
Witnesses:
HENRY OONNETT, J. D. CAPLINGER.
