To all whom, z't may concern.-
Be it known that I, WI LLIAM F. CAPITAIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cool: and State of lllinois,. have invented certain new Designs fora Font of lrinti 11g-Type, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying printed impressions.
My invention consists ol' a new design for a font of printing-type of broad-faced letters having the appearance of a medium between the extended Roman and the old-style type, as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
The Iniddle portions oi" the capital letters A and ll consist of two parallel lilies connecting with the sides of the letters. The upper front portions of C, l, F, (l, S, and T, the lower front portions ol' Land Z, the upper back portions of T and Z, and the lower back portion of S terminate with straight oblique lines diminishingr to a ine point. All the upper and lower case letters and numerals which admit of it are provided with ceriphs. The front lower portion of K consists of a heavy oblique line, the upper end of which terminates in a liuc upward point extended across and slightly beyond the fine line eonnecting the stem with the upper front portion ot' the letter. The upper portion of the tail of Q consists ofa fine curved line, and its lower portion is enlarged and terminates in a straight oblique fine line. The central portion ol`e consists of a fine oblique line connect` ing with the back and the upper front portion ofthe letter. The lower portion of g consists of a heavy straight diagonal line, and below it a fine slightly-curved line, the upper portion of whiehjoins the front portion of the diagonal line, and the lower portion of this iine line is enlarged and extended llaekward. The front portions ofone form of 11,111, and I1 are extended below the base-line of the other portions of these letters and have an oblique straight-pointed termination. The lower ends ofthe stems of p and q are provided with reverse oblique ceriph-lines. The letters C and h and C and o are formed in combination, as shown in the printed impressions.

l am aware of the state of the art as shown in United States Design Patents Nos. 8,419, 12,520, and 12,933.
\V hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a font of printing-type of broadlaced letters, in which font the middle portions of A H consist of two parallel lines connecting with the sides oi' the letters, the upper front portions of 0,11), F, G,S,and T, the lower front portions of L and Z, the upper back portions of T and Z, and the lower back portion of S terminate with straight oblique lines diminishing to a fine point. All the upper and lowercase letters and the numerals which admit of it are provided with eeriphs. The front lower portion ofK consists of a heavy oblique line, the upper end of which terminates in a fine upward point extended across and slightly beyond the fine line connecting the stem with the upper front portion of the letter. The upper portion ofthe tail of Q consists of a fine curved line, and its lower portion is enlarged and terminatesin a straight oblique iineline, The central portion of econsists of a iine oblique line connecting with the back and the upper front portion of the letter. The lower portion ofg consists of a heavy straight diagonal line, and below it a iine slightlycurved line, the upper portion of which joins the front portion of the diagonal line, andthe lower portion of this fine line is enlarged and extended backward. The front portions ofone form of l1, In,and n are extended below the baseline of the other portions of these letters and have an oblique straightpointed termination. The lower ends of the stein of p and q are provided with reverse oblique ceriphdines, and the letters C h and C o are formed in combination, all as shown in the typographical impressions.
