1 DES|QN o BEST AVAILABLE com W. F. FOSTER.
LAGING HOOK. No. 13,847. Patented Apr. 10,1883.
Wfl TJVESS EN INVENTOR J3 his .ditorneys UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. FOSTER, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A LAClNG-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,847, dated April 10, 1883. Application filed July 18, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. FOSTER,
residing in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Lacing-Hooks, to be applied to gloves or other articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my newlydesigned hook, enlarged to about three times the size that I intend to use on gloves. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same,
Heretofore lacing-hooks have been made which presented, when viewed in elevation, the appearance shown in Fig. 2 of the Letters Patent No. 73,847, dated January 28, 1863.
Thelacing-hook constructed according to my design contains araised or struck-u p portion or projection in front of the hook, the outline of which projection or struck-up portion, when viewed in elevation, as in Fig. 1, appears to slope up gradually at an angle considerably inclined from the perpendicular on the side opposite the hook. The hook itself curves upwardly above the level of the top of the projection A, and thence preferably curves downwardly again to its point, which is preferably just below the level ofthe top ofthe projection.
The design of projection or struck-up portion which I have shown might be used with another design of book. The design of hook which I have shown might be used with another projection, preserving the substantial characteristics of this design. The base of this projection is preferably provided with a laterally-extending flange, as shown in Fig. 2,
hook, and I makeno claim to anything shown 5 therein.
I claim- 1. In a lacing-hook, the projection A, designed so as to have its side opposite the hook inclined, and a substantially straight transverse passage between the hook and projection, as shown and described.
2. In a lacing-hook, the combination, with a projection, A, of a hook, B, designedso as to be inclined downwardly near its point, the portion of the projection adjacent to the book being arranged opposite the point of the hook, as shown.
3. In a lacing-hook, the combination, with a projection, A, of the hook B, curved upward- 1y to above the level of the top of the projection, and thence extending to its point in a downweirdly-inclined direction, the projection having the side nearest the hook substantially vertical and its opposite side inclined.
4. In a lacing-hook, the combination, with a projection, A, ofalaterally-extending flange at the base of the projection, as shown and described.
DANIEL H. DaisooLL, LIVINGSTON GIFFoaD.
