U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
LEVI P. GRAHAM, OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,938, dated May 23, 1882.
I Application filed March 30, 1882. Term of patent 35 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,LEVI P. GRAHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Monuments, of which the following is a specification, and which has never been patented to me, nor to others with my knowledge and consent, in any foreign country.
My design consists in a rustic base, out of which spring a pair of tree-stumps whose interlacin g branches form a segmentalarch carrying araiscd name or other ornament, and surmounted by a Gothic arch formed by the termination of the uppermost branches.
The entire design may be variously ornamented by plant and animal ornamentation,
and the stumps may bemade hollow to receive natural plants.
The number and position of the scrolls may 20 be varied without affecting the principle of my design, which consists in the following peculiaritics, which I claim:
1. Rustic base u, out of which spring trees 0 0, whose interlacing branches form the seg- 2 mental arch, surmounted by the Gothic arch, substantially as herein shown.
2. A rustic base provided with scrolls for inscriptions, supporting a pair of tree stumps whose interlacing branches support a raised 30 name, substantially as herein shown.
Attcst: LEVI P. GRAHAM.
