CHARLES DOWLER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A FLOWER-VASE AND SAUCER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,082, dated January 4, 1881.
Application filed November 12, 1880. Term of patent 31} years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DOWLER, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State 0t Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Flower- Vases with Saucers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact desciiption, reference being had to the accom mlrving photographic illustration, making part of this specification.
My invention consists in a design, to be made in terracotta, torflowenvases, and used as an ornament for tables, hainging,- brackets, 85c.
1n the photograph, n represents the shell of the Vase, which forms the receptacle for bolding plants, Sac having: its lower portion en larged. The shell or body of the vase has a plain bead-banthb, around its top edge, followed below by the six series of tulip-flowers c, alternating with the conventional foliate shell d, six in number, which, in turn, are pa1= tially overlaid by the leaves 0. Near the center of the vase is raised the plain and sealloped bandfg, which serves as a tinish for the shell-patterns d. The lower portion of the vase is ornamented by reeds h, which are partially covered by the six leaves 2'. Near the center, and opposite each other, are fixed the two medallions k k. The vase rests upon the circular ornamental saucer I, supported by four feet, m, its border being ornamented by four series of scales, a, covered by a leaf, cow sisting' of live each, and connected by a cord. The feet in are ornamented by the acanthnsleai', terminating in a roll-scroll.
When used as a hanging vase I substitute the ornamenti saucer 0.
Suitable colors or gilding may be employed to produce a more striking etiect.
What I claim as my invention is- A design for a flower-vase with saucer, in which the ortnunentation consists of the band I), tulipflowers c, shell-pattern (1, leaves 6, bandsj'g, reeds It, leaves '27, and medallions k, the saucer ornamented by the scales n and feet m, the whole arranged substantially as herein shown anti described.
