Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMILE V. ,LAESIU 0F NFV YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR MIRROR-FRAME.
Specilcation forming part ofllnsign No. 10,405, dated January 15, 1873; application filed Dec 1ubcr5,1877. [Term of Patent 3l years] To all whom 'it may concern` Be it known that I, EMILE V. ,LAEsIUs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for a Mirror-Frame, of which the following is a specification The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made.
The object of this invention is to furnish an elegant design for a mirror-frame, intended to be used on ladies toilet-tables and for similar purposes; and the invention consists of a frame with inner and outer borders, through which the glass is visible, the lower part of the outer border having scroll-shaped corner-pieces, a center shield, and symmetrically arranged genii at both sides of the shield, and scrolls at the corners of the inside border. The sides of the frame have-central medallions suspended from cords, and the top-part corner-vases an arched center-piece, with surmounting fruitbasket and wreaths connecting with the vases, and a symmetrical drapery dropping from the raised center part to the inner frame, and extending to the upper corners of the frame.
Referring to the illustration, A represents my improved mirror-frame, which is formed of elaborately ornamented outer and inner parallel borders B, that are connected at the lower corners by diagonal pieces, and at the top by intertwining ornamentation.
The lower part of the frame rests on scrollshaped corner ornaments C, between which a central shield, D, and genii E are arranged, the latter being placed symmetrically at both sides of the shield, their heads rising above the inner border and extending into angular filling ornaments F at the inside of the lower corners ofthe inner border.
At the middle of the sides of the frame A are arranged oval medallions G,with the heads of a boy and girl, respectively, the medallions being apparently suspended by cords and tassels from the upper top parts of the outer border, from points below ornamental corner vases H of the same.
The upper parts of the outer and inner borders are arched or curved intermediately between the straight ends next to the corners, and the outer border, between the cornervases, provided with a raised top piece, I, and a fruit-basket, I', rising above the top piece,
the fruit dropping symmetrically down to the top piece at cach side of the basket.
A handsome appearance is imparted to the top part of the frame A by means of fruitwreaths L, which extend from the fruit-basket to the vases, and by an ornamental fringed drapery, M, that drops from openings of the top piece centrally below the fruit-basket over the arched inner border. rlhe drapery then winds around the top piece, and again drops symmetrically at both corners below the corner-vases, so as to partly fill the space between the borders and cover the suspensioncords of the medallions at those points. The glass is intended to be visible through the open spaces formed by the borders, and by the top and bottom ornamentation, and may, if it is desired to increase the ornamental cffect, be engraved in suitable manner, but so as to be in keeping with the frame, and form a uniform and harmonious whole with the saine.
I claim as my invention- 1. The design for a mirror-frame consisting of parallel outer and inner borders, with lower part having corner-scrolls, central shield, symmetrical genii, and interior corner ornaments, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for a mirror-frame consisting of parallel outer and inner borders, with an arched top part surmounted by a raised top piece, central fruit-basket, and corner-pieces, and embellished by wreaths and drapery, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for a mirror-frame formed of parallel outer and inner borders, having lower part with corner-scrolls, center shield, and symmetrical genii, sides with central medallions suspended from the top, and an arched top part with corner-vases, raised top pieces, fruit basket, and ornamental wreaths and drapery, substantially as shown and described.
4. The design for a mirror-frame composed of parallel outer and inner borders, connected at the lower corners by diagonal bars and intermediate ornamentation, at the top by symmetrical wreaths and drapery, and at the sides by medallions suspended by cords from the top part, substantially as shown and described.
EMILE V. BLAESIUS.
