To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED Cones, of Elmwood, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in bag holders and the objects of my invention are to provide a bag holder of increased adjustability, having improved means for gripping and holding open the top of a bag; and further to provide such bag holder as may be operated and adjusted with great rapidity and will be constructed of very few and simple working parts.

The invention consists essentially of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specifications and drawings.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bag holder with the bag indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a side elevation partially in section to more elea rl y show the construction.

In the drawings like figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a standard of suitable form adapted to extend vertically, the standard illustrated being formed with a plurality of legs 10 forming a tripod to support the standard.

13 represents a supporting member vertically adjustable on the standard. In the embodiment illustrated the supporting member is formed with flanges 11 and 12 at the top and bottom respectively, formed with perforations through which the standard extends. The supporting member is adapted to be adjusted by means of a lever C which is fulcrumed to a pin 13 supported from a bracket 1 slidably mounted on the standard and held in adjusted position by a set screw 25, the outer extremity of the lever being connected by a link 15 with the supporting member. Means are provided for causing the lever to remain in any adjusted position. The means I have illustrated comprise a spiral compression spring 16 extending between the nut- 17 on the pin 13 and the bracket 14;, whereby the lever will be held against the bracket and the friction will tend to prevent movement.

Carried on the supporting member are two cooperative and oppositely moving aws D and E, each of said aws being pivoted to the supporting member and being connected together so that they will move in unison outwardly and inwardly. To effect this, the jaw D is pivoted at a short distance from its inner end, while the jaw E is pivoted at its upper extremity and a link 18 connects the extremity of the jaw I) with a point on the aw E intermediate of its length. To give adjustability to the different sizes of bags, a pin ality of perforations 19 are provided in the link 18, enabling the pivoting point to be raised.

To actuate the jaws, an arm 20 is pivoted to one member, and the said arm is also adapted to serve as a means to lock the jaws in open position, this being accomplished by forming a plurality of ratchet teeth 21 on the underside of the arm adapted to engage a projection 22 provided on the jaw D. The extremities of each of the jaws are turned and formed with semi-cylindrical members 23 and 24: adapted to engage the mouth of the bag.

In operating the bag holder, the supporting member may be quickly adjusted by the lever C and the jaws I) and E may be quickly spread on the arm 20 and held in adjustable position by the teeth thereon engaging the pin 22. Both the jaws move in unison owing to the link connect-ion previously described.

It will thus be seen that I have devised a bag holder increased in simplicity and one which will perform all the functions required.

-What I claim as my invention is:

1. In a bag holder and in combination a supporting member, a pair of pivoted jaws, one of said jaws being pivoted at its extremity, and the other being pivoted a short distance from its extremity, a link connecting the free extremity of one jaw with a point on the other jaw a short distance from the pivoted extremity, an operating arm pivotally connected to one jaw and adapted to interlock with the other jaw to hold the jaw in adjusted position.

2. In a bag holder and in combination a standard, a supporting member slidably supporting memloer and means for actuating said jaws in unison.
