GEORGE ROTTMAN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
MOTHPROOF GARMENT-BAG.
aaasri.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 20', 1911.
Application filed February 11, 1911. Serial No. 607,969.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE Ro'r'rMAN, a subject of the Sultan of Turkey, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mothproof Garment-Bags, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to moth-proof garment bags, and the object thereof is to provide improved means for closing and securing a bag of this class; a further object being to provide a bag of the class specified of the usual form and which is open at one end and provided with improved means for closing and securing the open end thereof.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a back View of a bag of the class specified made according to my invention and showing the bag closed ;Fig. 2 a front view thereof ;Fig. 3 a perspective view of the open end of the bag and showing the same open, and ;-Fig. t a section on the 1ine H of Fig. 1 and showing the bag closed.
In the practice of my invention I provide a bag a which is oblong in form and open at one end. The bag a may be composed of any suitable material, or material such as is usually employed in bags of this class, and said bag is provided with bellows-shaped sides as shown at a in Fig. 3, and the opening in one end of the bag is shown at a in said figure, and for the purpose of this description the side a will be called the back side of the bag and the side a the front side thereof, and said side a is provided at the open end with a folding flap a, and secured transversely of the inner side of the front a of the bag is a reinforcing metal strip a through which is passed a central rivet b and two side rivets b Mounted on the central rivet b is a U- shaped clamp 0 having a longer arm 0 and a shorter arm 0 and the longer arm 0 is provided with a longitudinal slot 0 through which the rivet 6 passes; and mounted on the rivets b are U-shaped clamps d comprising a longer arm (Z and a shorter arm (i and the longer arms d of the clamps d are provided with longitudinal slots (Z through which the rivets 5 pass, and the clamps d are adapted to be moved laterally or transversely of the bag, while the clamp 0 is adapted to be moved longitudinally of the bag.
In the operation of closing the bag the front side a and back side a are pressed together at the open end and the flap (4 is folded thereover so as to close the opening thereinto, after which the front and back side portions of the bag together with the flap a are folded over backwardly on the dotted line 6, shown in Fig. 3, this fold being also shown at e in Fig. 4:, after which the clamps cl are moved inwardly transversely of the bag and into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the clamp 0 is moved inwardly and longitudinally of the bag into the position shown in said figures and also in Fig. 1, and this securely closes the open end of the bag, and in order to open the bag, all that is necessary is to move the clamps c and (Z outwardly and unfold the open end of the bag and the flap a, into the position shown in Fig. 3.
The back of the bag is also provided transversely thereof with a metal keeper f in which is pivoted a hanger f provided with a ring f whereby the bag may be suspended in a closet, wardrobe or other place, from a hook, nail or other support, and, in practice, the bag may also be provided inwardly of the open end thereof with hooks or other devices for the suspension of garments therein, in the same manner as other bags of this class, but as these hooks or other devices form no part of my invention, they are not shown and described.
While my invention is primarily intended as a receptacle for the reception and preservation of clothing it will be understood that a bag made according to my invention may be used as a package receptacle for storing and preserving various kinds and classes of articles and said bag may be made of any desired dimensions.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bag of the class described, said bag being open at one end, and one side thereof at said end being provided with a folding flap, said bag being also provided at the open end with U-shaped keepers which are connected with one side thereof adjacent to the side edges thereof and which are movable laterally, each of said keepers comprising a long and a short arm. and the long arms being provided with longitudinal slots through which are passed rivets on which said keepers slide, and said bag being also provided centrally of the open end with a U-shaped keeper which is connected with the same side thereof and which is movable longitudinally of the bag and which comprises a long and a short arm and the long arm of which is provided with a longitudinal slot through which is passed a rivet, on which said keeper slides, said rivets being attached to the bag. 15
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 10th day of February 1911.
GEORGE ROTTMAN.
