Description
- thtiird gratta REUBEN M. REYNOLDS, OFOAKVILLE, MICHIGAN.
YLetters Patent No. 97,444, dated November 30, 1869.
\ Marr- IMPROVE!) LIIII"J.I1`TG-fi.ll ACK.
. The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of'the same.
\ To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, REUBEN M. REYNOLDS, of Oakville, in the county of Monroe, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Lifting-J ack; and do hereby declare that *the follow ling is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part 4of this specicaton, and to 'the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1, ofthe drawings, is a front View.
Figure 2 is a detail. My invention relates to lifting-jacks; and Y It consists in a novel arrangement of devices intended to serve efficiently asV a means for lifting and sustaining carriages, while ,the process of lubricating the wbeelsis carried on, and for other similar uses.
A and B, of the drawings, represent two standards or posts, arranged with reference to, eachI other, upon an angle, as shown in tig. l. These posts are respectively held in place by the plates a, andl, on the front points passes through and serves asa fulcrnm for the lever liereiiiafter described.
K is the lifting-lever, pivoted upon one'of the points v of the staple H, and also irmly attached to the block S, as hereinafter described.
S is a metallic block, cast with-a groovev adapted to'receive the head of lever K, and 'also with an ear, e, to receive and aid in operating the rod y. The cirv, cle'of said block, represented by a', ts closely to the front side of standard A, and the samepoint of the staple that passes through thelever K, passes also through the centre of the circle, and serves as a pivot for4 its movements.
It is a strong rod, bent at each end, so -as to form right angles with the body, one'ofwbichbent ends enters the ear e, while the other is operated at willin theopenings d of the lifting-post'.
To operate my device, one end of the rod R is placed in' an, opening, d, and the lever is, pressed down.- Vhen the lever is forced downward to such a point that the rod R becomes perpendicular with the liftingpost, or a little bey-ond that point, the Weight lifted is sustainedV automatically by the jack itself, and requires neither hand or weight upon the lever. p
What I claim asmy invention, and desire to secure by-Letters Patent, is- 'The 'lifting-jack herein described, having posts A,
B, and D, staple H, lever K, block S, and bent rod- R, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as specified. In testimony that I. claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, inthe presence ot' two witnesses.
