Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. IVALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gustine, in the county of Merced and State of California, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Horse-Collars, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to protectors for horse collars and its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which can be readily applied to a collar and which constitutes eiicient means for preventing usual wear upon the collar by the hame tugs.

Another object is to provide an attachment of this character which can be readily applied and which is especially useful in connection with chain traces.

Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference l designates a leather tab constituting the body of the attachment, the side edges thereof converging toward one end, and there being a transversely extending band 2 secured upon the broad end of the tab or body and forming a loop, the ends of this band being attached to the body in any desired manner, as by means of rivets 3. An ear t is formed upon the band adjacent the center of one of its edges and has an elongated strap o riveted or otherwise secured to it.

In using the device herein described the small end of the body l is secured in any desired manner to the inner face of the haine C and said body is then folded around the back edge of the hame so as to bring the bro-ad end of the body into position between the tug hook D and the hame C. Said hook can therefore be inserted between the body and the band 2 and the chain tug E may then be drawn between the body and the band and placed in engagement with the hook.

After the parts have thus been assembled the strap 5 may be threaded through the hook and under the hook and chain, after which the free end of the strap can be passed through the hook, thus forming a loop which serves to lock the chain within the hook. It will be seen that the body 1 will thus'protect the hame C from the wearing action of the hook D and the chain E and the strap 5 will serve to securely hold the chain against displacement relative to the hook.

Obviously the device which has been described is especially useful in connection with chain traces and is advantageous because of its simplicity and because of the ease with which it may be attached to an ordinary hame.

Various changes can of course be made in the construction and arrangement 0f the parts without departing from the spirit or sacricing'any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

That is claimed is zl. A device of the class described including a fiexible body, a transversely extending fiexible element secured to opposite portions of the body and spaced therefrom at intermediate points for the reception of a tug between said element and the body, and a st-rap extending from said element.

2. The combination with a haine, of a flexible base folded thereon and secured thereto, a transversely extending device secured upon the body, said device being spaced at intermediate points from the body to receive a tug hook, and a strap extending from said device for engaging said hook.

3. The combination with a haine, of a fiexible body secured thereto and folded thereon, a band secured to and extending transversely of the body, there being a space between the body and band for the reception of a tug hook and tug, and means extending from the band for engaging said hook and tug to hold the same against disengagement.

4.
