Be it known that we, MARION R. S'rownLL and JOHN E. STowELL, citizens of the United States, residing at Pillager, in the county of Cass and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Single Delivery Match Receptacles and 4Cigar-Cutters; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beino' had to the accompanying drawings,

A This invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined match safes and cigar cutters and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of the match safe. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is an end view showing the cigar cutter. Fig. l is a detail. perspective view of the cigar cutting device. Fig. 5 is an enlarged view in end elevation of the delivery cylinder. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the delivery cylinder. Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the cylinder, and Fig. 8 is a detail view of parts of two of the sides of the casing showing the manner of fastening the same together.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A, A designate two sides of the receptacles which may be made of any material suitable for the purpose and having slots A formed therein at different locations adjacent to the marginal edge thereof for the reception of the lugs B projecting from the adjacent sides B of the casing, said lugs being adapted to be passed through the slots and clenched, thus forming a secure means for holding the parts of the casing together. Mounted in apertures in the opposite walls A of the casing are the spindle ends C of the delivery cylinder C, which cylinder has a longitudinal groove D formed therein of to receive a match, one end of such a size as the groove being preferably somewhat l l. l
deeper than the other to compensate for the extra diameter of the head of the match.
F'Xed to one spindle end of the cylinder is a hand wheel E forming means for rotating the cylinder and a spring E is fastened at one end to said stem and its other end to the casing and forming means whereby, as the cylinder is turned in one direction, the spring will be put under tension, said spring being of sufficient strength when under tension to cause the cylinderto return to its normal position'after being released and after having delivered a match. The bottom of the receptacle, designated by letter H, has a shoulder H formed upon the upper surface adjacent to its forward end and against which a lug I projecting from the circumference of said cylinder is adapted to contact and form a stop to limit the rotary movement of the cylinder in one direction.
Mounted within the casing and diagonally disposed is a partition J, the lower end of which is recessed at J for a purpose which will presently appear, and said partition forms a floor for the matches, indicated by letter K, and being disposed at an inclination will cause the matches to roll down upon the circumference of the cylinder to be fed forward singly into a trough shapedL recess H2 formed in the projecting end of the bottom H. Said partition J is secured in place preferably by means of lugs, as before described, that is by lugs which pass through apertures in the side walls and afterward clenched. Said lug I is adapted to contact with the lower under edge ofthe inclined partition J to limit the rotary movement of the cylinder in its outer movement or in the act of delivering a match and the spring before described serving to return the cylinder to its normal position.
The front wall of the casing, designated by letter O, has its lower end widened and slightly concaved upon its under face and fitting over the cylinder, leaving an opening intermediate the lower end of said front partition and the recess H2 through which the match is allowed to fall by gravity, as shown clearly in the sectional view of the drawings.
Mounted within the casing is a bell Q and rising from the bottom of the receptacle is a standard R upon which is pivotally mounted a lever R', serving as a hammer, one end of which is adapted to be thrown against the bell-i byfthe :influence of :a springRwhich. latter is put under tension as a partial -rotary movement is: given in one direction to Y will return the the cylinder C, causing the lug I to contact with the lever and move/the same upwardv against the tension of the spring. After the lug I passes the end of the lever, the spring lever to its normal position and cause its opposite end to strike the bell and give an alarm each time a match is delivered.
Formed upon the' circumference of the cylinder and at right angles to the groove therein are the cam projections T upon one side ofthe groove and Tupon the opposite side ofthe groove, said cams T merging at correspondingvends into the circumference of the cylinder and their other edges incliningto andmeeting the adjacentfedge of the groove. The cam projections T terminate slightly more -abruptly at the-marginal edge of the -groove than the cam projections T merging at their ends farthest from the' groove intovthe circumference of the cylinder. Said yprojections serve to prevent the matches from Wedging between the lower portion of the wall O and the surface of the cylinder, allowing the'sameto be fed freely and singly. i
Fastenedto one-ofthe spindle ends of the cylinderis a cutting knife S which is fiXed thereto, and .I/V designates a guard -or housing fitting over the end of the spindle carrying said cutting knife and has anaperture W in the end thereof against the innermar ginal'edge of which aperture the knife is adapted to have a shearing action for the purpose of cutting the tip of a cigar inserted therethrough as the cylinder is given a forward rotary movement by the operator turning the Wheel E.
The operation'ofour lapparatus is simple and will be readily understood. The matches,.being inserted infthel casing upon the inclined bottom J, will naturally feed by gravity to the cylinder. The cylinderl is normally heldin the position shown inthev sectional `Viewy of thev drawings bymeans of thespring. When itis desired to deliver a match, the operatorby taking'hold ofithe wheel E and giving th esame a partial rotary movement towardthefront ofthe casing, al match which has previously .fallen into theE serves to normallyreturn the cylinder to its starting linder turns, the cutting knife in the; end of position When released. By the provision of the circumferential cam projections which are in alinement with each other andat right angles to the groove in the cylinder, the matches will be prevented from wedging` andthus allowing the matches to fall singly'into the-groove.

A single deliverymatch receptacle, comprising a closedvcasing providedwith a delivery opening and an extension platform, the inner marginal'wallofwhich s-inclined and; projects within the casing,`inclinedv partitions positioned within thelatter vand having their lower edges notched and spaced apart, -arotatable, spring-actuated cylinder journaled in the opposite walls ofthe casing and provided with `a Alongitudinal groove, which is held normally in alinement with the upper surface of one of said'inclinedpartitions, cam ribs arranged in pairs in alinement with each other, one of eachpair upon either side of thegroove in-'alinement with each other, said cylinderadaptedto turn in the space intermediate the partitions and the cam ribs to turn-in/saidnotches.
