GEORGE GLEAsURE, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.-
MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25, 1909.`
Application led .Tune 26, 1908. Serial No. 440,515.
Tov all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE GLExsnRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New York, havel invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Boxes and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same.
The invention relatesto a match box and more particularly to the class of match boxes having means for the delivery of a single match therefrom.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a match box comprising Ia base having a vertically disposed block thereon,
` the latter reduced to form a central slide provided with a match receiving slot in its uper edge, a match receptacle inclosing said hloc'k and slide and adapted to be moved upwardly to permit a sin le match to be deposited into the said s ot in the slide and When the receptacle is lowered on the block,
the said match will be ejectedfthrough a discharge exit at the top of the said receptacle.
Another obj ect of the invention is the provision of a match box which is simple in construction, ecient in operation and inexpensive in the manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arran ement of parts as will be hereinafter more fuolly described and as illustrated in the accompanying-drawings which disclose the preferred form of embodiment of the invention.
It is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be made such as come properly within the scope of the claimk hereunto appended Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Iii the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of theksame, the parts bein in their norv mal position. Fig. 3 is a simi ar view, the i slide portion being shown elevated. Fig. 4
is an end view of the invention 'showing the manner of connecting the slidable section or receptacleto the slot. Fig. 5is a top plan view of the invention.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
In the drawings, the numeral 6 designates the base of the match box and which is preferably of "square contour having beveled edges 7 and projecting upwardly centrally from the said ase is a block 8 of rectangular shape and being cut away on opposite sides to form shoulders 9 and an upwardly projecting central slide 10 formed integral with the said block. The upper edge of the said slide end is rovided With a groove 11 the latter extending throughout the edge of the said slide. Surrounding the block 8 and slidably mounted thereon is a receptacle 12 forming a match receiver and comprises side walls 13, end walls 14 and a top 15 which are united in any suitable manner. On the end walls 14 extending for a distance of the same and centrally thereof is an elongated slot 16 through which passes a screw fastener .17, the latter mounted in the block 8 in proximity to the shoulder portion thereof. The screw fastener 17 engaging the slot 16 pQermits sliding movement ofthe receptacle 12 and limits the saine in its upward and downward movement on the block 8 secured to the base.
In the top 15 of the receptacle 12 there is formed va discharge exit or slot 18 through which rojects a distance normally, the grooved) end of the slide 10 so that a match deposited within the groovel 1 can be ejected through the discharge exit 18 to the exterior of the slidable receptacle.
Tithin the receptacle 12 midway of its ends are spaced plates 19 which latter form a bottom of an upper compartment 20 into which are introduced the matches' in the match box. The said spaced plates 19 pro- .duce centrally thereof an opening 21 which is in alinement with the discharge exit 18 in the top of the receptacle and which opening Y and discharge exit permit vthe sliding movement of the slide 10 u on the raising and lowerin of the receptac e 12 on the block 8 of the ase. h
On each side face Wall 13 near the lower end of the receptacle 12 are secured abrasive lates 22 upon which to strike the match deivered from the match box.
Surrounding the lower end of the receptacle 12 and secured thereto is a binding strap or strip 23 so as to reinforce the lower extremity of the said receptacle.
The discharge exit 18 is also adaptedl for the purpose of introducing matches into the rece tacle12 to refill the same after the supply has been exhausted therefrom.

What is claimed is A match box comprising a base, a block rising centrally irom said base and being out away onopposite sides at its upper portion to form a narrowed upper terminal with respect to the lower portion of said block, thesaid narrowed terminal having a groove in its free edge, a hollow'vbody formed with a top, side and end walls inclosing the block,
right-angular anges projecting inwardly fromthe side walls and extending into the l cut-away portion of the block to support mateheswithin said body, the said top having-a discharge exit through which a match is ejected by the narrowed terminalof the 15 block upon the lowering of .the body upon said block, one of said end walls containing an elongated slot, and a screw carried by the lower portion of the block and engaging the slot to limit the raising and lowering of the 20 body from the block.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
