MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 12, 1909.
Application filed June 2%, 1907. Serial No. 380,555.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER L. HEMBREE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chester, in the county of WVoods, Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in match boxes, and more particularly to a match box constructed for the single delivery of matches and including a slidable element for effecting the discharge of the matches.
In connection with a match box constructed generally as above described, the invention aims as a primary object to provide a novel construction and arrangement of parts, the details of which will appear in the course of the following description, in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, like characters of reference designating similar parts throughout the several views, wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevation looking at one side of a match box constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a detailed view showing the connections of a sliding element for effecting the delivery of a match.
Referring specifically to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates a match receptacle, having one wall constructed with a hinged lid 2, and having its other wall constructed with a door 3, which is open when the matches are discharged. Depending from the top of the receptacle 1, are inclined walls 4 terminating above a horizontal plate 5, so that transverse spaces 6 occur at the ends of the plate 5 to permit of the axial sliding movement of a plate 7 which is imposed upon the plate 5. The plate 7 has movement in longitudinal grooves 8 formed in the side walls of the receptacle 1 and is constructed with a stem 9 projected through one of said side walls and having a slot 10 in which the end of the depending leg of a T lever 11, is engaged, the lever 11 being pivoted to the said side wall of the receptacle 1, as at 12, and carrying a cross piece 13, affording a handle. The plate 7 is provided with transverse parallel slots 15, which are designed, upon movement of said plate in either direction, to pass through the spaces 6 and permit of the delivery of a match. Beneath the plate 5 is an inclined skid 16, extending to the door '3, and upon which the matches impinge as they fall through the slots 15 in their registering relation. F or the purpose of convenience, the receptacle 1 has a grating plate 17 secured to one of its side walls to afford a roughened surface upon which the matches are struck.
In use, the walls 1 and the plate 5 constitute the casing for the matches, which are placed therein, by opening the lid 2. When it is desired to deliver a match the door 3 is opened, and the lever 11 is rocked on its pivot 12. By virtue of the connections described, such movement serves to reciprocate the plate 7, and the latter on each stroke of its reciprocation projects one of the slots 15 through the spaces 6, whereby a match gravitates through said slot and impinges upon the skid 16.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that simple and efiicient means are provided for accomplishing the objects of the invention, but while the elements herein shown and described are well adapted to serve the functions set forth, it is obvious that various minor changes may be made in the proportions, shape and arrangement of the several parts, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A match safe of the class described comprising a receptacle, inclined walls within said receptacle, a slidable plate below said inclined walls, said slidable plate having" spaced slots therein to alternately intersect the space formed by the inclined walls, a stem on the slidable plate, a pivotal T- shaped lever engaging the stem to shift the slidable plate in opposite directions, and a skid below the slidable plate.
2. A match box comprising a receptacle, having a hinged top, side and end walls, a horizontal plate fixed within the receptacle, oppositely disposed inclined walls converging downwardly towards each other and terminating a distance removed from the horizontal plate, a slidable plate imposed upon said horizontal plate and having transverse elongated slots spaced from each other, a stern projecting centrally from the slidable plate and having a slot, said stern projecting through one side Wall, a T- shaped lever pivoted to the exterior face of one side Wall and having its depending leg' engaging the slot in the stem whereby the slidable plate can be moved in opposite directions upon the manipulation of the T-sha-ped lever, and a skid extending 10 throughout the interior of the receptacle and below the horizontal plate.
In testimony whereof, I aifix my signat-ure, in presence of tWo Witnesses.
