To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, ORLANDO P. MARTE, a citizen of the United States of America, re siding at Dorr, in the county of Allegan and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Halter-Ties, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to halter ties, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide means whereby a halter may be quickly secured to or disconnected from a manger or other place where it is desired to secure an animal.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for readily connecting and disconnecting the end of a halter by a device secured to the manger without tying and untying the halter.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in whichff Figure 1 is a perspective view of a halter tie made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail elevation and partial section of a portion of the casing for holding the sliding block. Fig'. 3 is a face view of the sliding block removed from the casing. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view through the block and adjacent parts of the casing.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the casing provided with a back portion 2, said casing being provided with a central recess 3, the side walls of which are grooved, as at 4. Upon the left hand side of the casing is an interior recess or chamber and pivoted at 6 in this recess is a lever 7. Connected to the lower end of the lever 7 is a spring latch or bolt 8 provided with a backwardly extending shank 9 movably mounted in the socket 10 in the casing and provided with an encircling spring 11, the tension of which is exerted to project the latch or bolt 8. The lever' is pivotally connected at 12 to said latch or bolt, and at the upper end of said lever 7 a push bar 13 is pivoted at 14, said push bar extending through a slot 15 in the casing 1, and the outer end of said push bar being disposed in .a curved recess 16 in the edge of the casing.

The sliding block 17 is provided with a ring 18 swiveled in the center of the block, said ring having its inner end bent around to form a holding member 19 disposed in a recess at the back ofthe block. Upon opposite sides the block 17 is provided with a projecting tenon 20, said tenons each being provided with a beveled outer end 21, and said tenons preferably being shorter than the block. A

The operation of my invention may be brieliy described as follows: The leading line or tether a is' connected to the ring 18, and owing to the fact that the ring is swiv eled in the block the rope or halter cannot become twisted and tangled. Vhen it is desired to take the animal from the stall, the push bar 13 is pushed inwardly to release the latch 8 from the shoulder b, after which the block is raised and removed from the grooves 4 in the casing. When the animal is returned to the stall the block 17 is again inserted in the grooves 4 until one of the inclined portions 21 of the tenons 20 engages the beveled outer end of the latch 8 to retract the latch until after the block has been seated upon the bearing portion c of the casing and said latch projected over the shoulder L.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that the block 17 can be inserted from either end in the casing owing to the construction of the tenons 20 and the oppositely beveled ends thereof. The invention is simple in construction, can be manufactured at slight cost, obviates the difficulty experienced in tying and untying halters and leading lines, is always ready and is a great convenience in the care of live stock.

I claim:

A halter tie comprising a casing provided with a recess in the frontface thereof, the side walls of said recess being provided with grooves and a back secured to said casing, a sliding block provided with tenons upon its opposite edges to fit said grooves, said tenons having each a beveled end and a casing, said block being reversible with refshoulder, and said tenons being disposed upon the block with the shoulder spaced from the ends of said block, a ring swiveled in lsaid block for the connection of a halter line, and latch means in the casing to engage one of the shoulders of the tenons for retaining the block in the oppositely erence to said casing. 10
