HORACE F. TIBBETTS, OF OXFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
SKIRT AND GARMENT SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1909.
Application filed July 29, 1908. .Serial No. 445,890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORAOE F. TIBBETTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oxford, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt and Garment Sup orters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to skirt and garment fasteners and supports and it has for one object the provision of novel means for supporting the skirt in proper relation to the waist band and it has for another object the provision of novel means for fastening the waist band of a skirt.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device having two hooks, one of which is designed to engage the waist band and the other hook formed integral with the first mentioned hook designed to act as a fastener of the waist band to the skirt, the said hook acting in conjunction with an eye or at taching member on the opposite end of the waist band of the skirt.
A further object of this invention is to provide a combined garment su port and fastener of ornamental contour W erein the corners are rounded in order that they may not unduly wear the material which they contact. The provision of the rounded corners also prevents the. scratching of the hands of the user when the same are manipulated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the inventionconsists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a fragment of a skirt and waist, portions of the skirt being in perspective. Fig. 2, is a view in elevation of a plate and combined hooks. Big. 3, illustrates a side view thereof. Fig. 4, illustrates an end view thereof. Fig. 5, is a view in elevation of a member adapted to coact with the device shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4. Fig. 6, illustrates an end view thereof.
In these drawings A denotes a band applied to the waist of the wearer, B illustrates a skirt and C is the waist band of the skirt.
Secured on one end of the waist band is a curved plate D having its ends connected by a bar E, which bar is preferably integral with the curved plate, but is bent to form a loop on a plane parallel with the plane of the plate D, in order that a space F may be formed between the plane of the plate D and the planeof the bar E. The plate is provided with a series of apertures g, by which it is sewed or otherwise secured to the waist band.
Acting in conjunction with the plate and bar hereinbefore described is a hook H, formed as a continuation of a plate J, which is designed to be sewed to a garment, preferably on the outer surface of the waist band, through the aperture K, the said hook H, being meant for engagement with the bar E, of the plate D, when the parts are in their operative positions. The hook H, and plate J, are as stated, formed integral with one another. and with the head 1, which head has apertures K therein for the reception of securing devices by which the bar is attached to the waist band. The head Z, has an extension I, which is offset with relation to the head and forms a hook which is designed to overlie a portion of the inner surface of the waist band and is provided for the purpose of engaging the waist, to hold a skirt against sagging and a waist against drawing up from the band of the skirt.
It will be seen that when the device is applied to a garment the hook will be in engagement with the waist band A, the operation of the device would be as heretofore stated for, the hook H, will be in engagement with the bar E and the ends of the waist band C, of the skirt will be properly connected.
The plate J, andthe hooks carried thereby can be manufactured in a simple way from sheets of metal as the plate J and the hooks H and I can be stamped from the sheet of metal at a single operation and the said plate and hooks may be integral. After they are stamped from the sheet of metal, the hooks can be bent to the form shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 and they are ready for use. By using metal which will not corrode or tarnish, an ornamental and effective device of this character can be produced. As shown in Fig. 4, the end of the hook H is preferably deflected slightly as shown at h, which formation is for the purpose of per 7 mitting the hook to be readily applied under the bar E.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a combined garment fastener and supporting device is produced which will prove eflicient in that the meeting ends of a Waist band of a skirt may be connected and the said Waist band may then be supported through the medium of the hook. The construction of the hooks and securing devices is such that the thickness of the joint is minimized and the Whole attachment Will be found to be almost imperceptible.
I claim:
1. In a garment support and fastener, a head having apertures to receive fasteners, a plate formed integral with the head and bent to overlie the head, a hook formed integral With the plate and standing at right angles to the length of said plate, a hook depending from the head and offset with relation thereto and a device engaged by the first mentioned hook acting as a garment fastener.
2. In a garment support and fastener,- a head having an integral plate and a depending hook, the depending hook being offset with relation to the head and plate, a second hook formed integral with the plate and extending at right angles to the length of said plate, the said plate being adapted to be se cured to the inner surface of a Waist band and the depending hook being adapted to engage the band of a Waist.
