TROLLEY-WIRE HANGER.

Be it known that we, JAMES BRYAN and HARRY E'rrrnmnon, respectively a subject of Edward VII, King of Great Britain, and a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg and McKeesport, respectively, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trolley-Tire Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to overhead trolley wire hangers and the like employed in aerial trolley system and has for its object the provisions of a simple and practical means, in connection with trolley wire hangers, to maintain a permanent adjustable tension between the trolley ear hanger and the trolley wire connecting ear irrespective of the position of the trolley wire hangers with respect to its angulation with the trolley wire hangers and to quickly and rigidly secure said trolley wire hangers to the overhead supporting strain or guy wires as will hereinafter be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings we have illustrated our invention by different views, in which Figure I is a longitudinal side elevation of an improved hanger, partly in section. Fig. II is an inverted plan thereof. Fig. III is an enlarged and exaggerated transverse section of same. Fig. IV is a longitudinal side view of a variation in the form of hanger.
In the various views similar reference char acters refer to like detail parts throughout the following description.
The invention consists of a horizontally disposed metal hanger member 1, having a central boss 2, which is provided with a vertically disposed threaded orifice 3, to receive a stud 4, and a concentric recess 5, to receive a split spring washer 6. lhreadably connected to said stud, by means of its threaded orifice 7, is a deflectable trolley connecting ear piece 8, to engage the trolley wire 9, the shouldered portion 10 thereof engaging a plain washer 6, which in turn engages a split spring washer, thereby placing a permanent tension therebetween and consequently upon its movements. verge, at opposite points, from poles placed along the track, (not shown) the intermediate portions of said flanges extending transversely and provided with annular openings 13 through which pass bolts 14, carrying crimping washer 15, and nuts 16, said crimping washers being provided with grooves 16, which engage the points of convergence of said supporting strain or guy wires and forms a crimp in the wires about the flanges when drawn up by said bolts 1-1, as shown at Fig. II. \Vith this form of hanger the split spring washer being inter posed between the hanger and ear members, perfect connection is not only established therebetween but the ear member is permitted to deflect or adjust itself in a horizontal plane under permanent tension at all times to accommodate 0 crating alinement of trolley wire, and in addition thereto the hanger member is held from displacement on the su porting wires by the crimping washer as well as to take up any slack in the supporting strain or guy wires 12.
At Fig. IV we show a variation adapted for use when the supporting strain or guy wire extends transversely to the track which form also embodies the adjustable tension feature, said variation consisting of a member 20, having a central boss 20, with which are arranged the stud and washers which engage the deflectable ear member 21, said member 20 being provided at each extremity with an eye 22 to engage the supporting strain or guy wires.
It is evident that slight changes or modifications to the foregoing may be made without departing from the spirit of our invention.
Having thus fully shown and described our invention what we claim is 1. The combination of a member adapted at each end for connection with a suspension wire and provided intermediate 01' its ends with a vertically disposed threaded orifice, a trolley wire connecting member provided with a like orifice, a stud engaging in the orifices of both members to dellectably connect the trolley wire member to the suspension wire member and a member placing tension on said trolley wire connecting member.
2. The combination of a member provided at each end with means to form and engage a crimp in oppositely disposed suspension wires, a trolley-wire connecting member deflectably suspended therefrom, and a member placing tension on said trolley-wire connecting' member.
3. The combination of a member provided at each end with transversely disposed means to form and engage a crimp in oppositely disposed suspension Wires, a trolley-Wire con necting member threadabiy suspended therefrom and adapted to deflect in aimement with the trolley-Wire, and a member placing tension on the said trolley-Wire connecting member.
4. The combination of a member having a flange-traversing each end to engage a crimp in-the suspension: Wires thereof and a vertically disposed threaded opening intermediate of its ends, 'means carried by each of the flanges of said member to form and clamp the crimp in the suspension Wires thereto, a trolley-wire connecting member provided With a verticaliy disposed threaded orifice, a stud engaging in said orifices to defiectably connect the said trolley-Wire member to said suspension member, and a flexible member interposed between said suspension and trol- 5 ley-Wire members- 7 1n testimony whereof e afiix our signatures in presence of tWo Witnesses.
