Description

ntrd tahe @anni dtfijiw.
Leners Patent No; 91,756, dated .rum 22, 1869.
IMPRo-vnn Boor-camp.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
To all who/m it may concern Be it known that I, GYRUSLOMAX, of Paoli, in the county of Orange, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crimping- Boards for Bootmaker; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 2 represents a longitudinal section of my crimping-device, and Y Figure 1, a side elevation ofthe same.
Similar letters indicate like parts in all the gures.
My invention relates to improvements in the mode of crimping leather; and to this end,
It consists in the employment of a leather cap, provided with metal springs, and so constructed as to fit over the front edge of the crimping-board, in combination with such other devices as will be hereinafter setforth. Y
' To enable others to make and use my invention, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the 'accompanying drawings- A represents an ordinary crimping-board, and
B, the cap, which consists of a piece of leather bent over and shaped like the front edge of the `crimpingboard.
a a is a rib, of iron, riveted to cach side of the cap, near its loweredge.
b is a shoulder or recess, formed in the ribs a a near the instep, the object of which will be hereinafter described.
G G C are steel springs, made and secured to the ribs a a, as seen in iig. 1, to hold the cap together in proper shape as the operation of crimping is performed. rg
The operation of my crimping-board is as follows:
The crimping-board A is placed, on its heel, dumme stool of convenient height, and the leather to be crimped is laid across the edge of the said board.' The cap B is then inserted over the leather, and pressed with the hand, suicientto keep the leather in its place. Then by a pair of loose hooks, running up through the stool, immediately under the centre spring, which hook into the shoulder b, the cap is forced into the board A by the foot pressing against a strap attached to the hooks. By this arrangement leather can be crimped in one-third the time required in the ordinary way.
Having thus described myinvention, f
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cap, B, provided with ribs a a, in combination with the adjustable springs G O C, arranged to operate in connection with the cIimping-board A, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own,
I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GYRUS LOMAX. Witnesses:
MILTON S. HARI'rY, ARTHUR J. SIMPSON.
