To all whom it may concern:

- Be it known that I, JosEPH S. SOUREK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bath township, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Heads, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to mop-heads and the object thereof is to construct a mophead which serves as a clamp in which strips of fibrous or other material may be inserted and secured, the whole of which when connected with a suitable handle is designed to form a mop or duster.

A further object of this invention is to furnish a cheap and durable head for mops and which is not liable to break or get out of order and which can be easily manipulated.

A practical embodiment of this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the different figures.

Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my improved mop-head. Fig. 2 a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the clamping portions open for the insertion of the mop. Fig. 3 is a view showing a modification of the device. illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 in its open position, and, Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 with the clamping portions closed.

Referring to the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the mop-head consists of a fixed member comprising a rectangular frame of wire or cast metal having parallel sides 1, 1, a

front bar 2 and rear bars 3 parallel with the bar 2. The ends of the bars 3 are bent outwardly at right angles so as to be contiguous and are preferably sharpened to permit them to be driven into the end of the handle 4, for retaining the fixed member of the mop-head in position. I preferably provide the handle 4 with a ferrule 5 having one end shaped to receive the bars 3, 3, and assist in maintaining them in position. The slidable member of the mop-head consists preferably of a single piece of wire having its medial portion 6 extended between the side bars 1, 1, of the fixed member of the mop-head and bent thereabout forming loops 7, 7, and from thence diagonal portions 8, 8, extend upwardly past the bars 3, 3, and terminate in hooked ends 9, 9, adapted to be sprung under and engage the bars 3, 3. In using this device the members of the mop-head are separated as shown in Fig. 2 and a mop is then placed between the bars 2 and 6 after which the bar 6 is forced downwardly clampingthe mop against the bar 2 and the hooked ends 9, 9, are severally sprung under and caused to engage bars 3, 3, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

In the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the fixed member of the mop head comprises preferably integral parallel side bars 11, 11, a transversely-extending bar 12 and two rear bars 13, 13 preferably parallel with the bar 12. Adapted to slide on the bars 11, 11, is a member 14 preferably formed of sheet metal folded upon itself with separated ends to inclose the bars 11, 11, and with its sides bent together into tubular formation with a continuously-extending opening in which is preferably mounted a continuous bent wire 15 having diagonal portions 16, 16, crossing each other and terminating in hooked ends 17, 17 adapted to engage the bars 13, 13 for holding the member 14 in close contact with a mop.

In setting up the mop-head shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the parts will be arranged as shown inFig. 3 where the hooks 17 are withdrawn from -engagement with the bars 13, 13, and the member 14 separated from the bar 12. A suitable mop is then placed in the opening 'between the members 12 and 14 and when so placed the member 14 is forced against the mop and caused to clamp the same by bending the hooked ends 17 downwardly to engage the bars 13, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A mop-head comprising an open frame having parallel sides and front and rear sides, the latter arranged to receive a supporting handle, a bar slidably mounted on I and extending between the sides of said frame arranged to cooperate with the front side of said frame to form a mop clamp, and a pair of spring arms having hooks in their ends extending rearwardly from said bar and crossing each other and arranged to engage the-rear side of said frame for maintaining said bar in operative position.

2. A mop head comprising an open frame having parallel sides and front and rear sides, the latter arranged to receive asupporting handle, a bar slidably mounted on and extending between the sides of said frame arranged to cooperate with the front side of said frame to form a mop clamp, and
