Beit known that I, LOUIS IIoLLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Reels, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to reels for winding clothes lines; and it has for its object to provide a device of this class which shall be simple in construction` durable, efficient in operation, and by the use of which tangling of the line will be avoided.

In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention; it being however', understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modiiications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

The improved device comprises a base board A and winding cleat B, which latter is preferably made of stout wire.

The ends of the u ire B are inserted through apertures 1 in the base board` near the ends of the latter, and the terminal ends of the w ire are bent, as shown at 2 to prevent their withdraw al from the apertures, the bent ends 2---2 being protected by covering plates 3 of sheet metal which are secured upon the rear side of the base portion by means of nails or tacks. The w ire B is bent to form loops 4-4 adjacent to the front side of the base portion, and adjacent to the loops Ll--Ll'are formed ears 5 and 6 which are connected with each other by the middle portion of the wire, and which stand out from the base board to form the winding cleat. The ear at one end of the winding cleat is formed with an indented catch 7 into which the end of a line wound upon the reel may be inserted and securely held.

At the upper end of thebase board there is provided a screw eye 8 whereby the device may be suspended upon a nail or hook the covering plate 3 adjacent to the lower end of the base board affords a bearing for a pivotally supported curved or U-shaped bracket 9 which may be swung to the rearward of the base board, and placed in engagement with the arm of the operator, as will be seen in Fig. l; after a line has been wound upon the cleat, the curved bracket may be swung or moved to the forward of the base board, and utilized as a clamp to engage the coil of line, as seen in Fig. 2.

Iii the use of this device, the curved bracket 9 assists the operator in holding the device securely with one hand, the bracket 9 engaging the arm near thc elbow, thus e11- abling the operator to wind the line by moving the arm up and down, the terminal end of the line being made `fast in the catch 7 after which the coil 4of line is made further secure by means of the pivoted bracket 9.

Thev device is simple, and thoroughly efIicient for the purposes for which it is provided.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, is

l. In a device of the class described a base board, and a wire vframe secured upon the saine, said cleat beingprovided with loops adjacent to the base board and ears adjacent to the loop, and one of said ears having an indented portion vforming a catch.

2. A clothes line reel comprising a base board, a winding frame secured thereupon, and a curved bracket pivoted upon the back of the base board and capable of swinging Aforwardly and rearwardly of the latter.

3. A clothes line reel comprising a base board, a wire winding frame secured thereupon and having loops and ears, one of said ears being formed with an indentation constituting a catch; and a curved bracket member pivoted upon the back of the base board and capable of swinging 'forwardly of the latter.
