To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT L. \VEBSTER, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of New York, in the-county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for ImpressingSeals on Papers, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description;

This invention relates to improvements in devices for impressing seals on'papers'of a description in which there is comprised upper and lower die carriers longitudinally and horizontally movable relatively to a supporting frame having a horizontal opening therethrough said' die carriers having, the lower one a fixed sealing die and the upper one a movable die with means for moving it, and means for adjusting the die carriers longitudinally with provisions for maintaining them so that the coacting dies will always register, all whereby a seal may be impressed near either margin or at any intermediate portion on a sheet or on superposed sheets.

The object of this invention is to provide a sealing device of the general character and having the capabilities above indicated which is extremely simple and inexpensive of construction and entirely convenient in operation.

The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.

Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the views.

In the drawings, A represents a frame comprising opposite end uprights a, a", the one (2 thereof having apertures b b therethrough, the one directly above the other, one thereof having its location near the top and the other having its location near the bottom of the upright; the said frame also comprises, at its front and rear, separated upper and lower horizontal longitudinally ranging barsor rails (Z which at their ends are united to said uprights.

B and C represent a pair of opposed upper and-lower die carriers havingrecesses 1 in their front and rear edges, and they are by such recessed-edges slid-ably engagedre-' spectively with the bars'd d of theframer Said die-carriers having sealing dies, the one 9 appurtenant to the upper carrier be ing vertically movable and having means for operating it, such, for instance as the pivoted lever-2' which operates in conjunction with the axial stcm j of such movablei die while the lower die It is immovable relatively to its carrier C.

D represents a substantially -U shaped member having the opposed portions m m arranged horizontally and longitudinally in relation to the frame, movably engaged'or accommodated through the afoi'esaithapertures (Z in the one end upright a and having their inner ends connected as clearly shown in Fig. 2 to the upper and lower die carriers while the return bent or uniting portion 0 of the member D is located outside of said apertured end upright, and accessible, end wise outside of the frame.

The part D, being rigid, and rigidly connected to the opposed die carriers for constituting a simple and convenient means for moving the carriers concurrently, and with their dies always in register, to any location desired along the length of the openwork frame, may be conveniently manually operated by drawing the uniting return bent portion 0 outwardly longitudinally away from the end upright a or pushing it towards such upright.

In a device for impressing seals on papers, a frame having an opening therethrough between its top and bottom and having upper and lower parallel horizontal longitudinal die-carrier guide-supports, a pair of opposed upper and lower die carriers movably engaged with said supports, the lower one having a fixed sealing die, and the upper one having a sealing die movable relatively thereto and means for moving it,- and a substantially U-sha Jed member having its horizontally disposed extremities united to the upper and lower die carriers and having its return bent uniting portion located outside of the frame.

2. In a device for impressing 'seals on papers, a frame having an opening there-..

through between its top and bottom and having upper and lower parallel horizontal longitudinal die-carrier guide-supports, a pair of opposed upper and lower die' carriers movably engaged with said supports, the lower one having a fixed sealing die, and the upper one having a movable sealing (lie, and means for moving it,and a substantilly U-shaped member having its opposed portions ranged longitudinally of the frame with their ends connected to the upper and lower die carriers, and having its return bent uniting portion located endwise beyond the frame.

In a device for impressing seals on papers, a frame comprising opposite end uprights, one thereof having apertures therethrough, one above the other, said frame also comprising upper and lower parallel horizontal longitudinal die carrier guide supports,a pair of opposed upper and lower die carriers movably engaged with said supports, the lower one having a fixed sealing die and the upper one having a movable sealing die and means for moving it,and a substantially U-shaped member having its opposed portions arranged longitudinally of the frame movably engaged through said apertures, having their ends connected to the rights, a pair of opposed upper and lower die carriers having their front and rear edges recessed and slidably engaged respectively with opposed pair of said bars, said carriers having sealing dies the one in the upper carrier being Vertically movable and' having means for operating it and a substantially U-shaped member having its opposed portions arranged longitudinally of c the frame, movably engaged through said apertures in the one upright thereof, hav ing their inner ends connected to the upper and lower die carriers having the return bent uniting portion located outside of said apertured end upright.
