To all whom it 'may concern.'

Be it known that I, JAMES O. CovERT, a cltizen of the United States, residing at AVVatervliet, in the county ci' Albany and State oi New York, have invented certain new and usel'ul Improvements in Breast- Strap Snap-Hooks, of' which the following is a speciiication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to an improvement in breast strap snap hooks and it is ernbodied in the construction and arrangement of parts presently to be described and defined in the claims.

While the invention is particularly designed and intended for the purpose as above indicated, it is to be understood that it may be used in other connections and still come within the scope oiI the invention.

Heretofore in this class of devices, it has been customary to secure on the side of the hook part a clip or clcvis member to which the martingale is attached. This has been objectionable in that it required the ap lication of a fixture, namely, the link or cip of' the martingale being permanently attached to the hook and further it destroyed the balance of the hook and required a special construction of hook to adapt the invention to the use intended.

My invention is designed to provide a snap hook for breast stra s, or what is known as the roller snap, wlth a 'frame projection in the form of a closed loop located immediately in the rear of' the roller andl conveniently to arrange a loop of that character on opposite sides of the frame so that the hook can be used as a right or left hook.

While I have shown in the accompanying drawings a form of roller snap for breast straps, I desire it understood that the form illustrated is preferred but that the invention is not necessarily limited to the details of the construction shown.

In the drawings, Figure l re resents in perspective a roller breast strap ook showing a snap hook for the martingale strap attached thereto, Fig. 2 is a plan view of' the frame part slightly modified in that it omits the hook part.

I have shown a loop F on opposite sides so that the hook can be utilized as a right or left hand breast strap sna hook.

The snap proper is of a construction well known so that in use it can be readily snapped into the closed loop or frame on the breast strap hook and removed therefrom as occasion may require it. Incidentally, by constructing the closed loops of the breast strap snap so that they will receive an ordinary snap hook, the latter is rendered removable easily so that it can be taken from the breast strap snap and cli into the haines ring of the harness when esired. The capability of con necting the martingale to the closed loop or frame on the U-shaped frame of the breast strap snap hook is highly advantageous. By the construction of U-shaped frame with its closed loops located in the position shown, a very rigid construction is provided, one that can be readily cast and that requires no adj ustments or the application of any auxiliary devices for retaining the parts in place after connection with the martingale strap. A further advantage in locating the loops as shown is that they are located beyond the ends of the intle of the roller and do not interfere witli the proper heading up of the intle. p In Fig. 2, I have shown the construction somewhat'similar to that of Fig. 1, differing only in the shape of the loops and omitting the hook, appreciating in this connection that other attaching devices may be used instead ofthe integral hook, as shown in Fig. 1. A further advantage of the construction shown is that the loops are so positioned as to constitute a erfect finish to the entire construction, the orward side of the loop portion forming conveniently a continuation of the end bar of the U-shaped frame, all pins and objectionable pro'ections being thereby avoided. A further o ject is that 1n casting the U frame,.it is easy to form the closed loop in that they are located on the outside ofthe frame and in the plane thereof.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is: y

In a breast strapy device, a substantially a U-shaped frame, a hook extending from said frame and adapted to lie in a plane at right angles to the plane of the frame, abreast strap supportingV roller supported in the' ends of said frame, and a longitudinally disposed closed snap receiving loop on one ofthe arms of said frame,` one of the arms of said loop being connected to said U-shaped frame in rear of the roller and the other arm of said loop frame being connected to said U-sha ed frame and in alinement With the back ar thereof.v l

2. A breast strap snap device, a substantially U-shaped frame, breast strap supporti ing means connecting the ends of the arms of said frame, and 0 positely arranged closed loops' formed on t 'e respective' arms of the frame and extending longitudinally thereof.

3. In abreast strap attaching means, the combination With a frame having a hook eX- tension and an anti-friction roller, of two 0ppositely arranged closed loops formed on the respective arms of the frame intermediate the plane of the roller and attaching device, said loops extending longitudinally of the arms ofthe frame.
